When planning a trip to Havlíčkův Brod District, you can focus on culture, craftsmanship and landscapes in different ways. Havlíčkobrodsko is one of the five travel regions of Vysočina Tourism. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether castles and museums, glassmaking traditions or nature should shape your stay.

Landscape and nature in Havlíčkobrodsko

Wooded hills and rocky, romantic valleys characterize Havlíčkobrodsko. Here, the Železné hory range meets the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. At 709 metres, Melechov is the highest point in Havlíčkobrodsko. The Údolí Doubravy Nature Reserve offers a different connection with nature: more than 80 vertebrate species live there. A specific elevation and the biodiversity of a protected area thus offer different points of reference for travellers interested in nature.

Castles, views and museum collections

Ledeč Castle is an important attraction in Havlíčkobrodsko. It stands on a limestone spur above the Sázava. Visitors can climb 111 steps to the 32-metre-high tower, which offers views across the Sázava Valley. The castle houses the Municipal Museum, with exhibits on the town’s history and local crafts. The crafts covered include pottery, glassmaking, weaving and dyeing. There is also a permanent exhibition of historic clocks. The views, local history and craftsmanship offer different ways to experience this same castle.

Other aspects take centre stage at Lipnice Castle. It is open to visitors and was founded around 1310. Its extensive cellars contain the former banquet hall of Jindřich z Lipé; an archaeological exhibition adds to the historical themes. The castle is also associated with the writer Jaroslav Hašek. Near his grave is the Lipnický Poesiomat, which presents content about Hašek, Wolker and castle legends. The site brings together castle history, archaeology and literature, each with its own distinct story.

Glass history and town life

Huť Jakub Tasice is a cultural attraction in its own right. It began operating in 1796, and the complex preserves an exceptionally well-preserved open-air museum of glassmaking. Since 2014, it has been a Czech national cultural monument. The start of operations and its later monument status mark different milestones, while the open-air museum highlights the complex’s glassmaking focus.

Havlíčkův Brod adds town history and transport to these themes. The tourist information centre has an interactive historical exhibition that uses a model of the town to show its development and key landmarks. Havlíčkův Brod is also a national road and rail hub, with national rail connections. There is a regional culinary connection, too: Rebel, a traditional beer from Havlíčkův Brod, is served with seasonal and regional specialities. These different features give you concrete points of reference for choosing the focus of your trip—and, in turn, for finding the right hotel in Havlíčkův Brod District.
