The Church of sv. Josefa provides a specific historical point of reference in the village of Slabčice. Other cultural and archaeological themes in the destination range from the stone circle near Nemějice to Burkovák, also known as hora Tábor. These points of interest differ considerably in what they offer for your planning: a registered cultural monument, a stone structure with precisely stated dimensions, historical religious gatherings and a hiking route described in a 2021 account. This allows you to plan your trip according to whether you would like to focus more on local history, archaeology or hiking.

Church and Chapel in Slabčice

On the village square in Slabčice, the Church of sv. Josefa is a prominent landmark. It is listed as an immovable cultural monument in the central register of monuments and was consecrated in 1900. Its monument status and year of consecration offer two different historical points of reference: the register entry identifies its status as a cultural monument, while the date records a precise moment in its history. The Chapel of U dvou Lip in Písecká Smoleč is another attraction in Slabčice. If you would like to include religious buildings and local history in your stay, these are two specifically named places to consider.

Stone Circle and Burial Mounds near Nemějice

Near Nemějice, the stone circle lies west of and below hora Tábor. It has a diameter of eight metres and consists of a central stone and 16 perimeter stones; four of them mark the cardinal directions. This gives the structure’s modest size as well as a distinctive feature of its arrangement. Another archaeological point of interest in Nemějice is the ritual site and burial mound field, which contains 33 burial mounds. When planning your trip, you can explore different archaeological features: the circle’s dimensions and stone arrangement, as well as the number of burial mounds.

Burkovák: Ritual Site and Religious Tradition

Burkovák is considered a unique Hallstatt-period ritual site of European significance. There are two burial mound fields from the Bronze Age and Hallstatt period in its vicinity. In the Middle Ages, Burkovák, also known as hora Tábor, was a destination for religious gatherings. The celebrations on hora Tábor were revived in the early 1990s and continue to take place annually. Thus, an archaeological classification, a medieval history and a revived celebratory tradition offer different perspectives on the area. If the celebrations are important to your plans, check the event dates in advance.

Hiking Route from Nemějice to hora Tábor

A route description published in 2021 describes the green-marked hiking trail from Nemějice to hora Tábor. The route follows a farm track to the mountain at an elevation of 504 metres and is described as short and not difficult. According to the description, the trail can be continued from Nemějice to Písecká Smoleč. On the final climb to Burkovák is the so-called Kuličkovka, which was created in 2020. The main difference between the options described is therefore the destination: the route to hora Tábor or its mentioned continuation to Písecká Smoleč. As the route description dates from 2021, check the route and conditions before setting out for your visit.
