Slapsko: Landscape, Forest and Cycling
Accommodation in Slapsko
When choosing a hotel in Slapsko, the character of the landscape can be an important part of deciding on your destination. The entire administrative area of Slapsko is distinguished by its valuable landscape character; natural areas include forests, water bodies and small areas of greenery. The municipal plan of August 2025 also identifies local biocentres and the local Slapský potok biocorridor. The specific landscape features range from wooded slopes and a floodplain to a stream, meadows and various tree species. If you include the surrounding area in your choice of accommodation, this variety offers concrete points of comparison rather than a single general nature theme.
Landscape between forest, stream and floodplain
Čertova skála is a 9.14-hectare local biocentre in the narrow valley of the Podnebolický potok. It includes the wooded slopes of Hůrka and Čertova skála, as well as the watercourse’s grassy floodplain with a foxtail meadow. This area therefore combines two distinct landscape features: forest on the slopes and an open, grassy floodplain by the water. If you are particularly interested in varied natural features when choosing a destination, this combination is a distinctive characteristic.
The local Slapský potok biocorridor covers 6.74 hectares and is only very limited in its functionality. Its northeastern section runs alongside a small watercourse in a regulated, deepened channel. Native deciduous trees and cultivated meadow vegetation accompany this section. This makes the stream area different from the slopes and floodplain at Čertova skála; at the same time, its limited functionality is part of the corridor’s character.
The local Slapsko forest biocentre covers 6.77 hectares. Its stands consist mainly of spruce, supplemented by pine, larch, beech, birch and occasional oak trees. The mix of tree species mentioned adds an explicitly forest-focused area to the two stream and valley areas.
The difference in size is particularly clear between the forest biocentre, at 6.77 hectares, and the Slapský potok corridor, at 6.74 hectares: the difference is just 0.03 hectares. Čertova skála is larger, at 9.14 hectares. The two smaller areas, which are almost the same size, represent different ecological classifications: a forest biocentre and a stream corridor with very limited functionality. Size is hardly a distinguishing factor between these two areas; their ecological category and described landscape features are more informative.
Cycling and walks
Slapsko has suitable terrain for cycling tourism, and its beautiful landscape also invites visitors to go for walks. As you plan your trip, you can consider whether you would rather explore the area by bicycle or on foot. These two activities complement the biocentres, stream and forest with different ways to spend time outdoors. This allows you to choose a destination based on the landscape features and the interests of your trip.
