Zvěrotice: Village Character, Chapels and History
Accommodation in Zvěrotice
When planning your trip, you can focus on different aspects of Zvěrotice: its village character and history, cycle route 1180, or public sports area. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in the village, these themes can help you identify your interests. The following sections present the village’s historic and active sides side by side.
Historic Village Center and Village Square
The historic center of Zvěrotice comprises original agricultural farmsteads, their outbuildings at the rear, and adjoining gardens and orchards. It is designated as a valuable part of the area in terms of its urban character. The village’s character therefore extends beyond the individual farmsteads: the outbuildings and associated garden and orchard areas are also part of the described layout.
The central village square is another specific landmark. It is laid out in a circular shape and characterized by a broad public space. Original agricultural farmsteads surround the square, which is served by an extensive road network. The historic village center and the distinctive layout of the central square can thus be considered two related themes in the village’s history, while keeping their different spatial features distinct.
Chapels and Historical Traces
A chapel dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk stands in the village square. A second, Classical-style niche chapel is located southwest of Zvěrotice on the embankment of road II/135. It is a distinctive landmark in the landscape and an important landscape feature. The two chapels thus differ both in their locations and in the roles they play in descriptions of the village and its landscape.
The Zárubův Mlýn mill also connects the village’s history with a specific location: it stands west of Zvěrotice on the Černovický potok. Its first documented mention dates to 1648; the Záruba family milled there for almost 200 years. A historical record from 1460 mentions Zvěrotice together with two mills and the forests known as “Na Libuši.” These details offer different points of reference in time and subject matter, from an early mention of the village to the history of the mill.
Cycle Route, Walking Trail and Landscape
Cycle route 1180 runs from Soběslav through Zvěrotice to Sedlečko u Soběslavě. Within Zvěrotice’s administrative area, it follows a local road between existing buildings in the direction of Sedlečko u Soběslavě. For orientation, both the route’s wider course and endpoints and its specific path through the municipal area are provided.
A blue-marked walking trail also runs northeast of Zvěrotice. If you plan to use it, check the markings on site before following the trail. The surrounding South Bohemian landscape stretches across fields, pastures, ponds and copses.
Sports Field and Public Use
Zvěrotice’s public multi-purpose sports field has artificial turf and is designed for small-sided football, handball, foot tennis, volleyball, floorball, basketball and tennis. The range of sports for which it is designed indicates the activities the field accommodates; however, it does not mean that each sport is available at all times.
The sports field and its associated operations building are open to the public. At certain times, they can be made available by arrangement for sporting and social events. A freely accessible toilet for visitors to the sports area is available in the operations building. If you are planning an event, arrange use in advance, as the facilities are made available by arrangement.
