You can explore Švábenice when planning a stay through several cultural and historical themes: the Baroque parish church of St. Michael, exhibitions on local history, a historic sculpture ensemble and two named routes. This lets you distinguish between sacred architecture, museum exhibits and routes. The dates and exhibition themes provide specific points of reference to help you choose the focus of your stay.

Parish Church of St. Michael: Construction and Furnishings

The parish church of St. Michael was built in the Baroque style between 1716 and 1718; its tower is 53 metres high. The church also has an art-historically significant wooden pulpit, redesigned in 1851. The construction period and the later alteration to the furnishings are distinct points of reference in time. If you are interested in sacred architecture, Švábenice offers both a named architectural style and a specific furnishing with its own date.

Švábenice Museum and Church Museum

The Švábenice Museum is housed in a historic former school building dating from 1838. In eight rooms, it presents permanent exhibitions on social life and the history and past of Švábenice. A separate focus is its permanent exhibition of nativity scenes, with around 1,400 scenes. The topics therefore range from local society and history to a clearly defined nativity-scene exhibition. The museum thus combines local history with a dedicated exhibition topic.

The church museum in the parish church of St. Michael is a separate institution. It preserves paintings, sculptures, prints and other objects from the history of the church, the parish and the town. The church museum is closed until further notice. Check its current status before planning a visit.

Monuments and a Former Chapel

The sculpture ensemble of the Most Holy Trinity is the oldest cultural monument in Švábenice; an inscription dates its creation to 1711. Another historical trace leads to the former castle chapel. It stood approximately where the present-day Chapel of Our Lady Na Hradě is located. In the 12th century, Augustinian monks from Zderaz Monastery held services in the Latin rite for the Lords of Švábenice in the castle chapel. These details relate different points in time: the monument dated to 1711 and the religious practice of the 12th century.

Two Routes with Different Highlights

The route “Through the Ancient Landscape of the Hříběcí Hills from Švábenice to Zdravá voda” leads from Švábenice past the Na Jezírku Chapel in the direction of Zdravá voda. The “Picturesque Landscape of Němčicko” cycling route passes through Švábenice and is suitable for recreational cycling. For orientation, the descriptions offer different points of reference: the first route mentions a chapel and the direction of Zdravá voda, while the second describes its course through the town and its suitability for recreational cycling. You can therefore choose a route based on the highlights described for each one.
