If you are considering Blučina as a travel destination, you can first decide whether nature, architecture or local traditions should take centre stage. Alongside the Výhon natural area and Blučiňák Pond, you will find the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, Baroque monuments and cultural traditions. This lets you tailor your choice to specific interests: a landscape shaped by different uses, named buildings, or the municipality’s musical and festival history.

Landscape and nature at Výhon

Výhon Nature Park covers about 1,700 hectares of the entire Výhon Massif in the South Moravian Region. It lies within the cadastral areas of Blučina, Židlochovice and Nosislav. Výhon’s steep slopes are characterised by a mosaic landscape of vineyards, intensively and extensively cultivated orchards, fields and gardens, grassy verges along roads, and steppe grasslands.

The Nové hory Natural Monument near Blučina protects remnants of broad-leaved dry grassland, where orchids occur in some places. It is also home to numerous other specially protected and rare plant and animal species. While the nature park represents the landscape of the entire massif, Nové hory focuses on a specifically named dry grassland habitat.

The nearly 18-metre-high wooden Akátová věž lookout tower has stood at the summit of Výhon since 2009. It adds a named structure on the summit to the landscape focus, and can be clearly identified by its date and height.

Blučiňák as a water and nature attraction

Blučiňák Pond includes a natural swimming area as well as wetland and littoral zones. The best way to reach it is via the cycle path from the indoor swimming pool in Blučina. This gives Blučiňák its own focus for your trip planning alongside the Výhon natural area: a pond with different zones and a clearly identified access route.

Church, Baroque architecture and local traditions

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a protected cultural monument. The building has three naves and a five-sided chancel. These features describe different parts of the building: the three naves refer to the layout of the church interior, while the five-sided chancel describes the shape of the choir.

The Baroque Marian column was erected around 1720 and bears statues of Saint Barbara, Saint Florian and Saint John of Nepomuk. Boží muka is a three-sided Baroque wayside shrine from the first half of the 18th century. The dates differ in precision: the column is dated approximately to around 1720, while the shrine is dated to a period within the 18th century.

Music and local customs are also part of the area’s cultural profile. The brass band BLUČIŇÁCI was founded in 1920 by brothers Rudolf and František Kratochvíl. The Blučinské hody festival continues to be celebrated in the municipality in its original form. This brings together a musical history with a specific founding year and a festival tradition that is still maintained. If you include local culture in your choice of destination, these themes complement Blučina’s nature and architecture.
