Boudy: Nature, River and History
Accommodation in Boudy
In Boudy, trip planning can focus on a range of themes: local history, natural features, and activities on the river. When looking for a hotel, first consider whether you would like to base your stay on historical sites, landscapes and vegetation, or paddling. Each theme offers different starting points for your plans.
Nature and hiking
Trenckova rokle is a rocky gorge in the valley of the Bobrůvka between Skryje and Strážek, near Drahonín. It is a natural monument and also an area of European importance. Its protected features include crevice vegetation on silicate rocks, scree slopes, and mobile scree slopes. It also contains preserved remnants of dry, acidophilous oak forests and gorge forests. The gorge therefore offers a range of natural features that differ from the historical sites around Boudy.
A stream coming from Drahonín forms cascades and waterfalls in Trenckova rokle; the highest waterfall is four metres high. There is also a small waterfall among the area's natural features, and its flow is seasonal. Conditions on footpaths can vary. Check them before setting out on a hike if you plan to include the gorge in your itinerary.
For hiking enthusiasts, a route runs from Tišnovská Nová Ves to Tišnov along the Bobrůvka and through the settlement of Boudy. Trail conditions can vary; take this into account when planning your route.
Paddling on the Bobrůvka
Below Boudy is the Loučka (Bobrůvka) paddling section, rated WW I–II. It is navigable in spring and after rain; actual navigability depends on water levels and seasonal conditions. Two details are therefore important when planning: the section's rating and the conditions at your chosen time. The rating is no substitute for assessing current water conditions.
Features of the section include a weir with boulders and a footbridge made of two steel cables leading to the settlement of Okawango City. The lower cable is difficult to see. As conditions on the river and at the footbridge can change, check the current situation locally. This information is particularly important when assessing the paddling route against other travel interests, such as hiking or local history.
Local history and cultural monuments
Boudy was first mentioned in 1632 under its former name, Hvížďov; at the time, there were three buildings there. The date, former place name, and number of buildings are all part of this historical reference and provide a specific point in time for the area's history.
The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius stands on the grounds of the medieval Hrádek fortification. A ditch and part of the rampart have survived from the fortification. The chapel and the surviving remains of the fortification thus represent different aspects of the same historical site: a religious building and visible remnants of the structure.
Another cultural monument is the ruin of Rysov Castle. It stands on a high spur above the Bobrůvka, south of Skryje. At Rysov, its protected status as a cultural monument and its position above the river shape how the site is understood; at Hrádek, the focus is instead on the chapel and the surviving remains of the medieval fortification.
Getting there and practical information
IDS-JMK bus route 336 serves the Skryje, Boudy stop. Check the timetable before travelling so you can plan your journey around the departure times.
There is a place to get refreshments at Šafránkův mlýn. Check before your trip whether it is available. For hotel and trip planning, these details can answer different questions: the bus route concerns getting there, while the refreshment option provides separate practical information.
