Grešlové Mýto: Baroque Bridge and Mírovec
Accommodation in Grešlové Mýto
Grešlové Mýto offers different points of interest for planning a trip: a late Baroque road bridge and the Na Staré Poště complex, as well as the Mírovec hillfort and a hiking route. Building history, prehistoric settlement, and landscape appeal to different interests. If you are planning a stay, you can consider whether you are particularly interested in historic architecture, archaeological periods, or hiking.
The Bridge and the Na Staré Poště Complex
The late Baroque road bridge over the Jevišovka was built in 1766 on the historic route between Znojmo and Jihlava. A late Baroque statue of Saint Nicholas stands on the bridge; it is a protected cultural monument. This places the structure in context by its year of construction and period, as well as its protected status. The reference to the historic route adds a transport perspective to the architectural one.
In addition to the Baroque bridge, the Na Staré Poště complex includes a post station for mail coaches. The courtyard contains an open wooden coach shed supported by four masonry pillars. Na Staré Poště is part of a late Baroque and Neoclassical building complex; the year 1808 is inscribed on one of the gables. The two dates refer to different things: 1766 is the year the bridge was built, while 1808 appears on the gable. The term “coach shed” indicates the post station’s function, while the wood and masonry pillars describe the construction of this courtyard structure.
Mírovec: Hillfort and Landscape
The Mírovec hillfort is situated on a prominent spur above the Jevišovka River. The site was inhabited during the Eneolithic and the Early Bronze Age. Its location and chronology provide two different points of reference: the spur describes the hillfort’s position in the terrain, while the two periods indicate the timeframe of settlement. Mírovec is also the name of the largest of three ponds north of Grešlové Mýto. The hillfort and the pond are therefore two distinct references sharing the same name.
Hiking and Trip Planning
A route description last updated on 8 December 2006 mentions a yellow-marked hiking trail that starts and ends at Grešlové Mýto railway station. It goes via Boskovštejn and through Černý les; the route then runs around the Jevišovka Reservoir to Jevišovice. Check the trail markings locally. Jevišovka appears in the place descriptions in two roles: as the river near the bridge and hillfort, and as the name of the reservoir on the route.
The topics also differ in nature: the bridge and Na Staré Poště are architectural points of interest, Mírovec combines a terrain feature with prehistoric settlement, and the route description links several place names into a route. This comparison can help you weigh building history, archaeological context, and hiking as different focuses for your stay.
