Želetice: Wine, Nature and Local History
Accommodation in Želetice
Želetice offers several distinct reasons to visit: the Na Adamcích National Nature Monument, a long winemaking tradition, the Kyjov Wine Trail, a museum and a church with a history of its own. If you are looking for a hotel in Želetice, this combination can help you decide in advance which themes matter most for your trip. Natural landscapes, a cycling route, everyday history and sacred architecture offer different perspectives on the town.
Landscape, winemaking and cycling route
The Na Adamcích National Nature Monument lies within the cadastral area of Želetice, between Želetice and Nenkovice, on the slope of Homole Hill. Homole is 273 metres high. Na Adamcích thus adds a protected natural site to the picture of the town. Winemaking, which was a dominant tradition in Želetice for a long time, offers another perspective on the local landscape. The nature monument and winemaking represent different focal points: on the one hand, a protected site; on the other, a long-standing cultural and agricultural tradition.
The Kyjov Wine Trail runs from Ždánice along the Ždánka cycling route to Želetice, where it branches off towards Nenkovice and Násedlovice. It is marked in green. The two stated directions from Želetice offer a specific point of reference for navigation. The trail passes through forests, orchards, vineyards, fields and meadows. The route and the landscape complement each other as distinct aspects of the trail: the turn-offs describe the connections from Želetice, while the landscape types convey the character of the trail along its length.
Museum and church: two ways to explore local history
The Muzeum obce Želetice is housed in a former school building dating from 1897. The exhibition features objects and exhibits donated by residents, covering household life, agriculture and the everyday lives of earlier generations. It therefore ranges from household items and agriculture to other aspects of daily life. The building itself is also part of the town’s history: it was originally built as a school. The museum is open during festive occasions or can be visited by prior arrangement with the municipal office. Plan your visit for one of these occasions or arrange it with the municipal office in advance.
The Church of St James was founded in the mid-13th century. The Gothic presbytery and Gothic triumphal arch are the oldest surviving parts of the original church. The date of foundation and the architectural features offer two specific historical points of reference: the date puts the church’s history in context, while the presbytery and triumphal arch identify which original parts have been preserved. This offers a different way to explore local history from the museum collection, which focuses on the everyday lives of earlier generations.
Festive dates in Želetice
The Svatojakubské krojované hody are held every year in July. At the Želetické krojované hody, held from 23 to 27 July 2026, a hodová wine tasting was part of the programme on 24 July; a procession in traditional costumes also made its way through the town. The recurring July date places the festival in the annual calendar, while the tasting and procession describe specific events in the 2026 edition. This distinction is useful when planning a trip: a date given as an annual event and the details of a past edition are not the same thing.
