Židlochovice: Nature, Cycling Route and Culture
Accommodation in Židlochovice
Výhon Nature Park, the Brno–Vienna cycling route and the architectural history of the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross offer different highlights in Židlochovice. Other attractions include the Akátová věž Výhon lookout tower, a historic cellar associated with winegrowing and the municipal outdoor swimming pool. You can plan your trip around nature, cycling, architectural history or swimming.
Výhon Nature Park and nature trail
Výhon Nature Park encompasses the entire Výhon Massif, covering around 1,700 hectares. It extends across the cadastral areas of Blučina, Židlochovice and Nosislav and was established in 2002. Its size and the areas it covers make clear that the nature park encompasses a wider landscape, not just a single viewpoint. By contrast, the Akátová věž Výhon lookout tower is a specific destination on Výhon.
The Krajinou Výhonu nature trail offers information through interpretive panels. Its topics range from geology, flora and fauna to palaeontology, archaeological finds and the relationship between people and the landscape. Nature and human history are presented side by side: visitors interested in different fields of knowledge will find a broad range of themes rather than just one specialised topic.
Cycling route and lookout tower
The long-distance Brno–Vienna cycling route passes through the cadastral area of Židlochovice, along Masarykova Street and across the square. It then continues beside the river, over a footbridge and along a dedicated cycle path. The stretch through Židlochovice is therefore one section of this long-distance connection. If you are planning to ride the route, check the current conditions before setting off.
The Akátová věž Výhon lookout tower stands on Výhon. Built in 2009, it is made of concrete, metal and acacia wood. The tower is open around the clock and free to visit; access by car is prohibited. Access rules may change, so it is a good idea to check them again before your visit. The tower offers a different focus from the nature trail: the tower is centred on a viewpoint, while the trail presents a range of topics.
Architectural history and wine tradition
The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was built between 1724 and 1730 to designs by J. L. Hildebrandt, a Viennese Baroque architect. The dates place the building in the first half of the 18th century, while naming the architect also connects the town's history with Viennese Baroque architecture. The church is a specific point of interest for planning your trip if you are interested in architectural history.
The town hall houses a Regional Tourist Information Centre with a wine shop and a historic cellar that has been made accessible; ask locally about the cellar's exact access arrangements. The cellar also serves to present local winegrowing traditions. The RTIC sells tourist and wine-related maps for the Židlochovicko region.
Access and swimming
At the chateau, two different access arrangements apply: the chateau is not open to the public, while the adjoining chateau park is open to the public. Check access arrangements again before your visit so that you do not assume the chateau and park are equally accessible.
The municipal outdoor swimming pool in Židlochovice has a 50-metre pool for swimmers. If swimming is one of your travel interests, the pool adds a dedicated focus to the themes of nature, cycling and architecture. The pool's length is a specific feature of what it offers.
