Ivanovice na Hané lies on the Haná River, next to the D1 motorway and the Brno–Přerov railway line. The town’s character as a place to stay is shaped above all by the architectural history of the castle and St. Andrew’s Church, as well as by historic sites and a circular trail through the Haná landscape. You can therefore plan your trip around different interests: architecture, local history or a longer route through the gently rolling surroundings.

Town Park and the Haná Landscape

A robinia about 340 years old stands in the town park. It is one of the oldest surviving trees of its kind in Moravia. The tree brings a natural focal point to the town, while the circular trail leads through the gently rolling Haná landscape, dotted with ponds. When planning your trip, these offer two distinct perspectives: the town’s historic buildings and a route through the landscape. This helps you choose the focus of your stay according to your interests without treating the two themes as the same.

Castle and St. Andrew’s Church

At the head of the town square stands St. Andrew’s Church, one of the town’s major landmarks. The castle lies southeast of the church. It is a late Renaissance castle with a valuable arcaded courtyard. Its building history can be linked to specific names and dates: the Bukůvka family began construction of the Renaissance castle in 1608. Antonín Pariz of Brno carried out the work with the support of master stonemason Jan Foncun. This offers another way to explore the castle alongside its architecture: you can also learn about its origins and the people involved in its construction.

St. Andrew’s Church reveals a different layering of history. It has a Gothic core, was rebuilt in the second half of the 17th century and altered in the 18th century. Its Baroque overlay makes it one of the town’s historic monuments. The bell tower dates from 1759 and is adorned with Baroque sculptures. The castle and church thus differ in their architectural histories, while their relative positions—the castle lies southeast of the church—link them in the townscape. The castle is not open to the public; check before your trip whether this restriction is still in place.

Chapels and Historic Memorial Sites

The Chapel of St. Joseph in the cemetery was built in 1824 in the Neoclassical style by František, Margrave of Lusignan. His family crypt is beneath the arcade. The chapel therefore offers a different architectural reference point from the Baroque-influenced St. Andrew’s Church.

The Jewish cemetery, with gravestones dating from the early 17th century, lies on the eastern edge of Ivanovice na Hané. The town’s Jewish community ceased to exist in 1940. Another monument is the sculpture ensemble of St. Florian. This High Baroque religious complex was created between 1721 and 1729. Statues of St. Florian, St. Wenceslas, John the Baptist and the Guardian Angel stand on a monumental pedestal. Together, these places offer different historical perspectives: on sacred art, architectural history and Jewish life in the town.

Fairs are also part of Ivanovice na Hané’s history. In 1507, the town received the privilege to hold a fair; in 1547, Ferdinand I approved a third fair, to be held on the Tuesday after Pentecost. These two dates mark historic market privileges. They add a perspective on the town’s history to its buildings, without indicating a current event date.

Circular Trail and Getting There
