For your stay in Krhovice, nature, water and architectural history offer specific points of interest. At the Vraní vrch Natural Monument, the focus is on protecting plant and animal communities adapted to warm, dry conditions. The Dyje adds opportunities for paddling and swimming; the waterways also have a technical history. St. Bartholomew’s Church adds a historic building with a clearly defined location and construction period. Depending on whether you want to focus on the landscape, river or architectural history, these themes can shape your travel plans.

VranĂ vrch Natural Monument

The purpose of protecting the Vraní vrch Natural Monument is to safeguard xerothermic plant and animal communities—that is, communities adapted to warm, dry conditions—on muscovite orthogneiss of the Krhovice crystalline complex. The description thus links a specific habitat type with a specifically named geological substrate. Endangered plant species at Vraní vrch include the Bohemian golden star, large-flowered pasqueflower, purple mullein and feather grass. These examples give the botanical theme specific names; the protection purpose also covers animal communities.

The Dyje and historic waterworks

When it comes to the waterways, it helps to distinguish between them: The Krhovice–Hevlín irrigation canal is fed by the Dyje at Krhovice. The Mlýnská strouha, by contrast, is an artificial water channel that branches off from the Dyje at the southwestern edge of Krhovice. The names refer to different structures and different connections to the river: one canal is fed at Krhovice, while the other branches off at the edge of the village.

The Mlýnská strouha is a technical monument and is considered Moravia’s oldest waterworks. Its first written mention dates from 1302. This year refers to the mention, not the date of construction. This distinguishes the historical date from its classification as a technical monument.

St. Bartholomew’s Church

St. Bartholomew’s Church stands in the southern part of Krhovice, above the left bank of the Dyje and the Krhovice–Hevlín canal. It was built between 1861 and 1862. Two valuable Neoclassical tombs are located on the northeast façade of the presbytery. The location, construction period and tombs are three specific aspects of the building: the construction period dates the church, while the tombs are located on a particular façade of the presbytery.

Leisure on the Dyje and on foot

Hiking is one of the leisure activities in Krhovice. The paddling option is more specifically defined: the section of the Dyje from Krhovice to HevlĂn passes through the Meandry Dyje Nature Reserve and is suitable for beginners. As river conditions can change, check the current conditions before your trip.

A water sports campsite is located on the bank of the Dyje in Krhovice. Services and operating arrangements may change; check them before your visit. There is also a place to swim on the Dyje. Before swimming, assess the local conditions and whether the spot is suitable. Hiking, paddling and swimming are different ways to enjoy leisure time: the paddling section’s route and suitability are described, while hiking is established as an activity in the village.
