Lančov: Nature, Water and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Lančov
Lančov offers plenty to explore for a stay focused on nature, cultural landscapes and historic buildings. The municipality’s cadastral area lies on the right bank of the Vranov Reservoir. Several distinct themes can help you find your bearings: the Spálená Nature Monument, the forest at Tisová stráň, recreational spots in the area and a cycle route that runs through Lančov. There is also the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, nearby Luitgardin dvůr and a long-standing Maypole tradition. This will help you assess whether the destination suits your main interest, be it nature, outdoor activities or culture.
Nature and Landscape
Spálená is a 3.0738-hectare nature monument, first designated on 15 January 2014; it is also part of the Natura 2000 protected area network. The site protects xerothermic shrub communities with stands of cotoneaster species (Cotoneaster spp.). Xerothermic describes a warm, dry habitat. Together with the named Cotoneaster stands, this description gives the nature monument a specific botanical profile.
Another natural feature is Tisová stráň, 2 km north of Lančov on steep slopes along the right bank of the Dyje Valley. The north-facing forest stand has a varied composition of species and ages; its ground layer is home to naturally occurring European yew and perennial honesty. The two natural features are therefore clearly distinct: Spálená is known for xerothermic shrub communities, while Tisová stráň is a varied forest stand with the species named above. Tisová stráň is best reached directly from the Dyje River or via the riverside path. Check the terrain conditions locally before setting out.
Water and Routes
The two coves offer different experiences: Lančovská zátoka is an important nature-based recreational spot in the southeastern part of the Lančov area, while Stříbrná zátoka is a bathing spot suited to a peaceful swim. Road III/39813 leads from the centre of Lančov towards the holiday-home area by the Vranov Reservoir. From the turn-off to Lančovská zátoka, it continues as a local road. Check local access conditions if you plan to use this route. The “Cyklistický okruh Vranovskem” cycle route passes through the Lančov area, from Vysočany towards Vranov nad Dyjí. This gives you both a described road route and a specific cycle route with a named direction to help you find your way.
Church, Farmstead and Traditions
The Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Lančov is a late Romanesque building dating from the early 13th century. Luitgardin dvůr, a manor farmstead located near Lančov and Vranov nad Dyjí, was founded in 1841. The two buildings represent different historical periods; the farmstead is also significant for the landscape: it has historical, urban-planning and architectural value, contributes to the character of the surrounding cultural landscape and serves as a landmark. Raising and felling the Maypole has also been a long-standing tradition in Lančov.
