Other attractions include historic church art, a chapel surrounded by sculptures of Nativity scenes, the seasonal “Lužické léto” programme, and routes for walkers and cyclists. If you are looking for a hotel in Lužice, you can tailor your stay to your interests and explore the local highlights that appeal to you.

Local History and Culture

The “Starý kvartýr” Museum is devoted to the traditions, history and skills of former and present-day residents of Lužice in the Hodonín area. Its scope therefore goes beyond simply looking back: today’s residents are explicitly included, too. This sets its perspective on local history apart from a focus on individual historic buildings, as it places people and their skills at the centre.

The Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius offers a specific point of interest in art history. In 1932, academic painter Köhler decorated it with paintings of the church’s patron saints, Cyril and Methodius, as well as Saint Martin and Saint Wenceslas. The local church in Lužice also hosts classical music concerts. Art history and music thus represent two distinct aspects of the cultural offering.

The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary can be understood through two historical stages: it was built in 1825 on the site of an earlier, dilapidated chapel and moved to its present location on Ploštiny Street in autumn 2009. Sculptures of Nativity scenes can be found nearby. Students from art colleges created them at the “Dřevo, kámen – Lužice” symposia in 2010, 2011 and 2013, under the direction of curator and academic sculptor Lída Pecková. The chapel therefore combines architectural history with artworks created at symposia held over several years.

Leisure, Nature and Routes

The Cihelna complex is a recreation and leisure area serving the wider region, and is suitable for fishing. During the summer months, cultural events are held there under the name “Lužické léto.” This makes it a place for two different pursuits: fishing as a leisure activity and a seasonal programme of events. If you plan to attend “Lužické léto,” check the current event dates before your visit.

The garden at the Včelařské Arboretum features a bee education trail, with trees and shrubs favoured by bees. The arboretum is recognised as a model natural garden according to the selection criteria of the Veronica Institute of Ecology. The trail and the trees and shrubs described there have a clear focus on bee-friendly plants. The arboretum adds a natural-garden dimension to the area’s cultural history and leisure activities.

The routes also differ in their stated destinations. A blue-marked walking trail leads from Lužice railway station to the Slavic hillfort of Mikulčice. The Hodonín–Lužice cycle path ends on Březová Street in Lužice. Another cycle path, the Podluží, leads to Lužák, where swimming in natural waters is possible. The listed destinations therefore range from a hillfort to a point within Lužice and a place where swimming is possible. As bathing conditions can change, it is advisable to check them before your visit.
