When choosing a stay in Němčany, you can weigh nature, landscape and history as different areas of interest. The village extends along the Němčanský potok at the foot of the Drahanská vrchovina. The other themes are clearly distinct: they range from protected habitats and geology to pilgrimage, local history and a recreational horse ride with a historical connection.

Landscape and Nature in Němčany

The setting by the stream and at the foot of the highlands shapes descriptions of the landscape around Němčany. Nature enthusiasts will find a range of points of interest: at Návdavky u Němčan, the focus is on protecting heat-loving plant communities and wild animals, especially amphibians. The area is a natural monument and lies about 500 metres south of Němčany. Three signs bearing the state coat of arms mark it; it is best to check the local signs upon arrival.

Volkramy offers a different natural focus. The area consists mainly of broad-leaved dry grasslands, which in places transition into sub-Pannonian steppe grasslands. It is also home to several significant plant species and a thriving, large population of the great pasque flower (Pulsatilla grandis). Compared with Návdavky, the two sites have different emphases: protected plant communities and wildlife at the former, dry grasslands and a particularly notable plant population at the latter.

The Mrazový klín, northwest of Němčany near Lutršték, is of geological interest. An unusually large example of soil weathering is exposed in the wall of a sand quarry there. While Návdavky and Volkramy are chiefly defined by their habitats and species, the focus at Mrazový klín is a geological process and its visible form.

Pilgrimage and Local History

The pilgrimage site of Lutršték lies on Vinohrady Hill northwest of Němčany. It includes the Chapel of Panny Marie Sedmibolestné, built near a spring between 1867 and 1877. Its construction period gives the site a different historical connection from Němčany’s older architectural monuments.

The Chapel of sv. Antonína Paduánského in Němčany is a historic example of Baroque church architecture dating from the late 17th century. Its building history includes two dated changes: the chapel was restored in 1731, and a side sacristy was added in 1872. The history of the building can thus also be traced through these later alterations, without losing sight of its original architectural classification.

The Němčany Museum preserves material, written and photographic records of the historical development of the community. It complements the study of individual buildings with a broader perspective on the history of the village. For those interested in local history, both the architectural heritage and records in various material forms are therefore central themes here.

Recreational Horse Rides with a Historical Connection

The Jezdecký klub – stáje Němčany offers recreational horse rides for individuals and groups, with historical commentary at the battlefield near Slavkov. The experience combines a ride with explanations about this historic site. If you would like to include this activity in your travel plans, check current availability before booking.

The themes can be distinguished according to your interests: landscape and habitats, the geology of Mrazový klín, pilgrimage and architectural history, or a ride with a historical focus. This lets you choose the theme that suits your trip without conflating the different places and their respective associations.
