In Níhov, a large body of water, paths through valleys and traces of local history are among the defining features. When looking for a hotel in Níhov, you can first consider whether the pond landscape, hiking or railway history should be the main focus of your stay.

Ponds and habitats

Níhovský rybník, also known locally as Hájenka, covers seven hectares and is the largest body of water in the Tišnovsko region. It has attracted tourists since the First Republic and is often used for swimming and recreation. The quiet part of the pond is a nesting habitat for water birds.

Another special feature near Níhov is Studánka Dlaně. The spring, which provides drinking water, lies where pasture, fields and forest meet. Above it is a sculpture of hands from which water flows. The Haldatal valley is also notable for its natural features: it is home to a nesting site for eagle owls. Remains of the foundations of wooden buildings have also been preserved in the gorge.

Hiking trails with different routes

A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from the railway station in Dolní Loučky through the Blahoňůvka valley to Níhov. It then runs alongside the ponds through the Haldatal valley, via Vidonín and through the Libochůvka valley to the trail junction in the settlement of Habří. A green-marked trail connects Tišnov with Níhov and continues alongside the ponds to Velká Bíteš. The two marked trails differ mainly in their routes and destinations: the yellow trail goes as far as Habří, while the green trail connects Tišnov and Velká Bíteš via Níhov. Check the trail markings locally before setting out.

Another route option is the 4.3-kilometre “Údolím říčky Haldy” route. It starts at Níhov railway station and follows an unmarked path mostly through the forest, downstream along the Halda stream. Several fords must be crossed along the way, and there are numerous interesting rock formations to see. When planning, this route can be clearly distinguished from the yellow- and green-marked trails. Níhov railway station is about two kilometres from the town.

Chapel and railway history

The chapel dedicated to Saint Wenceslas stands in the village square. The residents built it in 1872; it was reconstructed again in 2016. The work included the roof and façade, as well as utility lines, paving and the interior. The chapel thus combines its origins in the 19th century with a later renovation.

The railway tunnels are also part of Níhov’s history. The third tunnel before Níhov is 531 metres long. During the Second World War, the tunnels near Níhov were used as factories where fuselages and wings for Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter aircraft were manufactured. Together with the structural remains in the Haldatal valley, this history offers another perspective on the changes that have shaped the town and its surroundings.
