Omice can be considered from several perspectives when planning a trip: Bobrava Nature Park within the cadastral area, trails through the landscape, and architectural and historical themes. The hiking trail and educational trail should be considered separately: the yellow-marked hiking trail starts at the railway station, while the Bučín educational trail focuses on nature and history.

Landscape and Trails

Bobrava Nature Park is located within the cadastral area of Omice. The Bučín educational trail near Omice passes through this nature park and the Bučín forest area. Deciduous forests with oaks, beeches and hornbeams predominate in the forest area. This brings together a larger landscape and a specific forest area with its characteristic deciduous woodland. For nature enthusiasts, both the nature park and the tree species in the Bučín forest area are relevant topics.

A yellow-marked hiking trail starts at Omice railway station. It passes over the summit of Tmavý žlíbek and by Bučín, heading towards Rosice. The Bučín educational trail differs in that it passes through the nature park and forest area and focuses on historical themes. The yellow hiking trail emphasizes specific waypoints and the direction towards Rosice; the educational trail combines landscape and historical content. This allows you to distinguish between the two trails according to their respective focus.

Architectural History and Culture

The Church of St James the Greater in Omice is a Romanesque building, constructed around the 12th century or, at the latest, at the beginning of the 13th century. It is a protected immovable cultural monument. Archaeological remains bear witness to Omice’s medieval fortress, including stone foundations more than one metre thick. The church and the fortress remains offer different architectural connections to the history of the village: the church is notable for its style and approximate date of construction, while the fortress is notable for the thickness of its stone foundations.

The Bučín educational trail also provides information about the remains of an old inn on the main road. The inn was burned down during the Thirty Years’ War. Another topic is a medieval trade route that led through the forests from Brno to Ivančice. The trail’s historical perspective thus ranges from the roadside inn to a trade link between Brno and Ivančice. Omice is also associated with the adult folk ensemble Folklorní soubor Omičan.

Omice Railway Station

Omice railway station provides step-free access to all platforms. In accordance with ČSN 73 4959, the platforms have a standard height of 550 mm above the top of the rails. Accessibility and platform height answer different planning questions: the first detail concerns step-free access, while the second concerns the height of the platforms. Check this operational accessibility information again before travelling.
