Přibice lies on a terrace above the Jihlava River. The village can be explored from two different angles: sacred architecture and commemorative history on the one hand, and floodplain landscapes and nature on the other. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Přibice, this combination may play a role in your choice of destination. The focus is on the Church of St. John the Baptist with its preserved ossuary, a historic monument, a signposted wine route and specific natural features. This can help you decide whether to focus your stay more on cultural history or on landscape-related interests.

Nature between terrace and floodplain

The Přibice floodplain preserves remnants of floodplain forests. The Natura 2000 site Mušovský luh is also part of Přibice’s natural environment. It is home to eutrophic waters, floodplain forests and species such as the otter. Eutrophic means rich in nutrients and describes a characteristic of the waters. The terrace describes the village’s location; the floodplain and Natura 2000 site add habitats and species to this geographical context. For travellers interested in nature, Přibice thus offers both a landscape setting and specific habitats and animal species.

Church and local history

The Church of St. John the Baptist was built in the Romanesque style and is one of the oldest churches in Moravia. Beneath its sacristy is an ossuary dating from the 14th century that has been preserved to this day. An ossuary is a place for storing human bones; its location beneath the sacristy directly links this feature to the church building. The church also contains an inscription that has not yet been deciphered; its language is also unknown. The Romanesque classification places the church in an art-historical context, while the inscription remains an unresolved detail to this day.

A statue of St. John of Nepomuk stands on the south side of the park in front of the church. It was erected in 1768 and extensively restored in 2011. The Apoštolka is associated with a different form of local remembrance: according to popular tradition, the Slavic apostles Cyril and Methodius drank from the spring at the Apoštolka as they travelled through Moravia. Two forms of remembrance come together here to shape your understanding of the place: a dated monument and a popular tradition.

Planning a wine route and garden visit

Two different factors are important when planning your trip. The signposted Brněnská Wine Trail, section Uherčice–Těšany, passes through Přibice. At the Exotická zahrada Přibice, you can see hundreds of exotic plants from around the world during the Open Gardens Weekend. If you are planning a visit to the garden, check the dates of the weekend in advance. The route, with its named section, and the garden visit, which is tied to a specific weekend, offer different ways to explore your interests.
