Podomí combines a long history of settlement with tangible connections to streams, a pond and local leisure activities. During your stay, you can explore historical sites and activities in the village. The village’s development, the memorial to those who fell in the First World War and its various connections to water are particularly revealing.

From the village’s founding to a textile manufactory

Podomí was established during the colonisation of the region in the 13th century as a two-row forest-strip village. The first written mention dates from 1349, when the settlement was called Boda. Its founding and its first written mention are two distinct reference points: the founding places its beginnings in the 13th century, while the written record preserves the name Boda for the 14th century. The village’s early history therefore cannot be tied to a single date alone.

The Podomka stream divided the original village and its cadastral area into eastern and western parts. The eastern part was resettled between 1550 and 1567. In 1803, a weaving and spinning manufactory was established on the Podomí estate. These milestones tell of different changes: from the division of the settlement area to the establishment of a textile manufactory.

Commemoration and traces of earlier settlements

A sandstone memorial was erected in 1921 in memory of 15 residents of Podomí who fell in the First World War. It was later moved from the crossroads in the village centre to the park on the grounds of the new school. The memorial’s history therefore includes both its construction and its subsequent relocation.

The vanished settlement of Hamlíkov lies within the cadastral area of Podomí, about 2 kilometres southeast of the village. Ten relics remain there. Its location, approximate distance and the number of relics give this historic site its own place in the history of the area.

Streams and ponds

The Podomský potok flows through Podomí and Jedovnice and feeds the Budkovický and Olšovec ponds. The Podomka, meanwhile, is connected with the historical division of the original village. These two waterways illustrate different aspects of local history: the Podomka is associated with the division of the settlement area, while the Podomský potok flows through two municipalities and feeds the ponds.

Stage and sports ground

The third stage of the Stezka Blanenskem starts in Podomí and is also suitable for cyclists. Its starting point and suitability for cycling are useful details for planning your routes. Check current conditions before setting out.

The multipurpose sports ground in Podomí is also regularly used by the public for sports and physical exercise. Individuals, organisations and groups can rent the ground. If you plan to use it, check availability and rental terms in advance.
