Discover Říčany: cultural history and sport
Accommodation in Říčany
If you are looking for a hotel for your stay in Říčany, local attractions may influence your choice of destination. Their cultural history ranges from the late Baroque Church of St Peter and Paul, through the former site of the Říčany fortress, to the Panský dům. Sporting opportunities offer a different focus. When planning your trip, it is therefore worth considering historic buildings and activities separately: for the church, the construction period and architecture are key; for the fortress, its former location and visible traces; and for sport, opening hours and seasonal conditions.
Church and pilgrimage
The Church of St Peter and Paul is a late Baroque religious monument, built between 1754 and 1763. Its tower is 32 metres high. The construction dates and the height offer two different points of reference for understanding the monument: the dates describe when it was built, while the tower’s height gives a specific measurement of its architecture. If you are interested in religious architecture, the church is a distinct focus for your trip planning. A pilgrimage associated with the church takes place regularly in Říčany at the end of June. Dates may vary from year to year; if you want to plan your stay around this event, check the specific dates for the year in question.
Fortress and historic buildings
The Říčany fortress is documented as early as 1349. Its former site is now wooded; the ditch surrounding it is still visible. A memorial stone marks the former site of the Říčany fortress known as “Zámeček”; the spot is shown on maps as “Na Hradisku”. It lies in a forest northwest of Říčany, on a high promontory above the valley of the Říčanský potok. The fortress’s location and the still-visible ditch shape its historical significance—unlike the church, where the construction period and tower height are the main points of interest.
The Panský dům also adds to the picture of the town’s history. Experts estimate that it dates from the 16th century. The house was part of the farm buildings of the so-called “Dvůr”. Its place among these farm buildings gives it a different historical context from the church and the former fortress site.
Sport, swimming and tennis
The sports complex is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is freely accessible during opening hours. As opening hours may change, check them before travelling. In winter, ice skating is possible there, provided that suitable winter conditions prevail and local operations allow it.
The water at the natural swimming pool is suitable for swimming year-round; check the current conditions before your visit. Two tennis courts can be rented on the grounds of the natural swimming pool. If you are planning to play tennis, it is advisable to check current rental availability in advance.
