Synalov features striking natural formations and a clearly laid-out historic village center. Its natural highlights include gneiss ridges, rock formations and a pond-and-millrace system; in the village, the Okrouhlice, preserved folk architecture and the Chapel of the Guardian Angels are central. This makes it easy to distinguish between the landscape, village history and recurring events when planning your trip.

Landscape and Protected Areas

Synalovské kopaniny encompasses the upper slopes stretching south from Sýkoř toward Synalov. It lies at an elevation of 554 to 672 meters. Exposed gneiss blocks form one of the longest block streams in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands.

Horní Židovka is a protected natural monument in the cadastral area of Synalov. Its rocky gneiss ridge features frost cliffs up to ten meters high. Klášterce also includes a rocky ridge stretching from Synalov toward Lomnice. Horní Židovka has a gneiss ridge with frost cliffs up to ten meters high; at Klášterce, a rocky ridge runs from Synalov toward Lomnice.

The protected natural monument of Míchovec extends across the cadastral areas of Běleč and Synalov. Its geological formations include frost cliffs, block fields formed by rockfalls, nivation hollows and fissure caves.

A different landscape characterizes Pilský rybníček: this protected area is a system of a pond and millrace in the Besének valley between Synalov and Strhaře. It is a habitat for rare aquatic plants and an exceptional breeding site for amphibians.

Pod Sýkořskou myslivnou is a 25-hectare nature reserve in the cadastral area of Synalov.

Routes and Places to Visit

The Járy Cimrmana educational trail follows a yellow hiking marker from Lomnice u Tišnova to the cabin below Sýkoř. One stop on the trail, at the Pod Synalovem signpost, is dedicated to Cimrman's Plostika.

The ruins of Osiky Castle are a destination in their own right. They lie mostly within the cadastral area of Synalov and are protected as a cultural monument. A newer footpath provides access to the castle ruins.

Village Center and Architectural History

Synalov’s village center forms an “Okrouhlice”: seven large farmsteads are arranged in a circle around the central village square. Houses featuring the original folk architecture of the Podhorácko region have been preserved. The Chapel of the Guardian Angels adds to this historic setting; it was built in 1883.

The ruins of Osiky Castle are also part of the area’s cultural context, but should be considered a separate destination: they lie mostly within the cadastral area of Synalov, while the village center is characterized by its circular layout and preserved houses.

Recurring Events

The pilgrimage to the Guardian Angels is held in Synalov every year on the first Sunday in September. The “O Synalovský pohár” pétanque tournament is also held annually here. You can plan your trip around whichever event is most important to you.
