Accommodation in Tvořihráz
Tvořihráz offers several distinct perspectives on local history and landscape. The château with its farmyard combines its earlier role as a fortress with its later use as a summer residence. There are also religious and other heritage-listed sites, protected habitats in Tvořihrázský les, and routes that pass through the village. This makes it possible to plan a stay around different interests—from a focus on history to exploring the forest and its routes.
Château, chapel, and wine cellars
The château with its farmyard was originally a fortress. At the end of the 17th century, the Dominicans of Znojmo converted it into their summer residence. This sequence reveals two different uses: first as a fortress, and later as the Dominicans’ summer residence. The Chapel of Saint Dominic is located by the château; Sunday services are still held there today. If you plan to attend a service, check the current schedule.
Extensive wine cellars were built on the château grounds in 1694. For a long time, sacramental wine was produced there and taken to all the Dominican monasteries in the country. The year marks when the cellars were built; sacramental wine production continued over a long period. The cellars thus add a religious and artisanal aspect to the history of the estate.
There are named historical points of interest beyond the château, too. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is listed as a cultural monument in Tvořihráz. The wayside shrine on the road to Horní Dunajovice has the same designation. Other sights and monuments include the Loucký mlýn hamlet on the Jevišovka. Local heritage is therefore not confined to a single building; each of the places and monuments mentioned has its own significance.
Nature conservation and traces in the landscape
Tvořihrázský les is a Natura 2000 site of European importance. It protects oak-hornbeam forests and the habitats of the stag beetle, great capricorn beetle, and barbastelle bat. The protected area thus includes both forest habitats and the habitats of three named animal species. Preserved burial mounds, historic hollow ways, ponds, and boundary stones can also be seen in the same forest. Visitors interested in both nature and history will find different perspectives on the landscape here: protected habitats and visible traces of the past.
Hiking and cycling routes
A green-marked hiking trail runs from Znojmo through Tvořihráz and on via Plaveč to Hluboké Mašůvky. The places along the way give you a clear direction for planning your route. If you want to follow the trail, check the markings on site. Another option is the approximately 45-kilometer Cyklookruh Mikroregionem Moravia. It also passes through Tvořihráz and runs partly on paved roads and partly on unpaved paths. The practical details differ: the hiking trail is defined by the sequence of places and its direction, while the Cyklookruh is characterized by its approximate total length and changing surfaces.
Another named route, the Mlynářská stezka, passes through Tvořihráz on its section in the Znojemsko region. Together, these routes show different ways to include the village in your travel plans.
