Wischau (Vyškov) offers a range of reasons to stay: historic buildings and collections, animal experiences, markets and a long cycling route. Which of these appeals to you most can shape your plans. Each of the sights and activities has its own focus.

Cultural History in the Castle and the City

Muzeum Vyškovska is located in Vyškov Castle. It features eight permanent exhibitions as well as temporary exhibitions. If a particular temporary exhibition is important to your plans, check the current exhibition program in advance. The history of the castle is also remarkable: it was converted from a Gothic castle dating to the 15th century between 1665 and 1682.

Zámecká zahrada includes a loggia dating to 1673. It has seven arches and Tuscan columns; the upper section is adorned with a balustrade. The Renaissance town hall, built in 1569, retains remnants of a Renaissance shelter, Renaissance inlaid doors and 18th-century stucco decoration. The two buildings showcase different aspects of architectural history: the loggia is particularly notable for its arches and columns, while the town hall stands out for its architectural elements and decorations preserved over several centuries.

The Chapel of St. Anne is also a Renaissance building, dating to the 16th century. It preserves fragments of wall paintings; these Renaissance murals are signed with the date 1584. The former synagogue is part of the city’s conservation area. Its restoration in 2024 highlighted its art-historical significance in connection with the history of Jews in Moravia.

Muzeum Vyškovska also displays an extensive collection of Vyškov folk pottery. Its history reflects a long local tradition of production: this folk pottery was made in Vyškov from the early 18th century until 1945. In addition to the exhibitions in the castle, the museum thus offers a glimpse of a craft shaped by the region.

Animals and Rural Life

ZOO PARK Vyškov focuses primarily on domestic and farm animals from around the world. In the Dvoreček naší babičky area, visitors can interact directly with domestic animals and feed or pet goat kids, lambs and other animals. This is a different focus from the city’s architectural and collection history: here, the animals and the chance to encounter them up close take center stage.

The ZOO PARK also includes Hanácký statek, a replica of a farm from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Traditional materials were used for the building, including reed for the roof and clay plaster inside. Period-appropriate farm features and agricultural tools are also on display. The farm complements the animal area with a glimpse of traditional building methods and rural furnishings, while the two themes tell different stories: one is about domestic animals, the other about the farm as a historic place to live and work.

Plan for a Cycling Route and Markets

The 60-kilometer Srdcem jižní Moravy cycling route runs from Vyškov to Blansko and connects the Drahanská vrchovina and Moravian Karst areas. If you plan to include the route, check the latest route details before setting off. Its stated length and endpoints help you plan this cycling trip as a distinct part of your stay.

Vyškovské trhy takes place at Masarykovo náměstí every other Wednesday. Products on offer include baked goods, cheese, fruit, vegetables and wickerwork. Check the specific dates before your trip if you would like to plan a visit to the market. Alongside culture and animals, Wischau also offers a regular market day and a cycling connection as distinct options for your stay.
