When looking for hotels in Aussig, you can first plan your trip around the landscape, hiking, cycling or culture. The region offers everything from volcanic cones and viewpoints to cycling routes, castles and spa towns. Practical plans also depend on trail rules, route conditions and seasonal opening hours. The differences below can help you tailor your trip to the activities you have in mind.

Landscape and viewpoints

The Bohemian Central Highlands are of volcanic origin: basalt cones rise from fertile fields, while castles stand above vineyards. In the Milešov part of the protected landscape area, distinctive conical mountains, individual ridges, scree slopes and exposed rocks shape the landscape. At 837 metres, Milešovka is the highest peak in this section.

The České středohoří reaches its lowest point on the Elbe near Děčín, at 122 metres above sea level. Two viewpoints offer different perspectives: from Milešovka, a 360-degree panorama stretches across the region, while Lovoš offers a view over the Elbe. Weather and access can affect the view, so check conditions before setting out.

Hiking and rules in the national park

Bohemian Switzerland National Park has a network of marked hiking trails. The markings follow the systems used by the Czech Tourist Club or the park administration. The historic long-distance Ridge Trail connects Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland with the Ore Mountains. Its first section through sandstone country leads to Rudolf's Rock and the viewpoints at Belveder; the route is also characterised by rugged rocks and deep forests.

One clearly measured hike is the Libochovice–Házmburk walk: it is five kilometres each way, takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours at a relaxed pace, and is rated moderate. The route through the Land of Castles leads to the ruins of Házmburk; a viewpoint at the rocky Vrabinec Castle offers a view over the Elbe. Check local access to the ruins before visiting.

For trips in the national park, the type of trail also matters: cycling is limited to roads, local roads and designated cycle paths. Horse riding is restricted to roads, local roads and marked bridleways; climbing is permitted only at designated locations and at specified times. As park rules and trail closures may change, check with the park administration before your trip.

Cycling: the Elbe Cycle Route and other routes

The Elbe Cycle Route runs for 96 kilometres within the Ústecký kraj region. Around Ústí nad Labem, it includes a section of about 25 kilometres that follows safe cycling principles. The route passes through Žernoseky, where you can taste wine; individual wine producers and the availability of such offers vary. Check current diversions and route conditions before your ride.

The Ploučnice Route is a main cycle route in the Ústecký kraj region, connects the Ústí and Liberec regions, and is part of Czech long-distance cycle route 15. Its surface is mostly paved or otherwise hard-surfaced; a road bike is not recommended. Check the route and surface conditions before setting out.

More challenging cycle routes pass through Czech garnet country, the Milešov Highlands and the Ore Mountains. Destinations mentioned include the Ore Mountains Museum in Lesná and the Mědník Mining Gallery. As route conditions and opening arrangements may change, check them before setting off.

Cultural heritage and spa towns

A regional overview from the NPÚ heritage administration dated 24 March 2026 lists Házmburk, Jezeří, Libochovice, Ploskovice, Stekník and Velké Březno among the castles, chateaux and religious monuments it manages. Jezeří Chateau is a Baroque heritage site in the Ore Mountains and offers views of the surrounding landscape. Visiting arrangements are seasonal; check opening times for your travel dates.

The UNESCO Cultural Landscape of Žatec and the Saaz Hops region includes traditional hop fields, as well as buildings used for drying, packaging, certifying and storing hops. Their different functions illustrate hop processing.

Teplice is considered one of the oldest spa towns in Central Europe and is associated with a meeting between Goethe and Beethoven. Other spa towns include Lázně Mšené and Klášterec nad Ohří. Spa services and visiting arrangements vary by establishment; check the details before your visit.
