Braňany offers several distinct points of interest to help you plan your trip: regional Cycle Route 3106, historical connections, local cultural events and the Selský dvůr with its restaurant. If you are looking for a hotel in Braňany, it helps to first narrow down the purpose of your stay. For a cycling trip, the route sequence and cycling map provide specific points of reference; for a cultural stay, the seasonal tradition and cultural programme events come into play. The local history adds older connections and the history of the former fortress to this selection.

Cycle Route 3106 and getting your bearings

Regional Cycle Route 3106 runs from Litvínov through Braňany, Skršín, Havraň, Vysoká Pec and Horní Jiřetín, then back to Litvínov. Litvínov’s appearance at both the beginning and end indicates that the route is a loop; the other named places lie along the way. A cycling map is available for Braňany; visitors are also directed to the Most Tourist Information Centre. If you include the route in your plans, the sequence of places shows how Braňany fits into the loop; the map adds cycling information specific to Braňany.

Local history and historical connections

The municipality gives 1327 as the year of the first mention associated with Braňany: at that time, “Guntherus de Brand” was mentioned. The former Červený Dvůr fortress stood below Červená hora near Braňany. Its owners were obliged to perform corvée labour for the Royal Castle of Most. Corvée labour was compulsory work; here, the term refers to the relationship between the fortress owners and the castle.

Braňany also lies at a historical crossroads that connected Bílina and Most in an approximately east–west direction, and Louny or Prague in an approximately north–south direction, with the border crossings near Osek. The reference to the fortress indicates a historical relationship of authority; the crossroads, by contrast, place Braňany within former connections between several places.

Selský dvůr and local culture

Selský dvůr Braňany is one of the few surviving agricultural farm complexes in northern Bohemia. The restaurant serves homemade cuisine made with fresh regional ingredients in restored rooms with brick vaults. This brings an agricultural complex and a restaurant serving regional cuisine together in one named place. If you value regional ingredients or historic buildings as part of your trip, Selský dvůr is a specific point of reference for your stay.

A recurring spring tradition is Čarodějnice, which includes keeping watch over the maypole; the annual event schedules for 2024, 2025 and 2026 list it. Braňanské posvícení is a traditional local festival with evening entertainment and was scheduled for 3 October in the municipal cultural programme for 2026. Braňanské peklo with Mikuláš was scheduled for 4 December 2026 in the same programme; programme changes are possible. The spring tradition and the two events scheduled for October and December therefore take place at different times of year. Check the December date again in the programme before your visit.
