Vikletice has been part of the municipality of Chbany since 1963 and lies on the right bank of the Nechranice Reservoir. The lake is a body of water in an open landscape, covering more than 1,300 hectares. Two topics are particularly relevant when planning a trip: activities on the water that vary by season, and cultural history that can be traced through named buildings, historical dates and the landscape.

Reservoir and Water Sports

In spring and autumn, favorable winds on the reservoir are suitable for sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. In summer, the lake is used for swimming and fishing. Comparing the seasons can help you choose what to focus on: wind-dependent sports rely on favorable winds, while swimming and fishing are associated with summer. Check local conditions before swimming.

The Yacht Club Nechranice is located on the south shore, in the central waterfront area near Vikletice, and serves as a base for sailing and water sports. Its facilities include piers, a mooring basin and paved ramps for launching boats. They are also designed for regional and international sailing competitions. Club members pursue a range of activities, including windsurfing, kitesurfing, wingsurfing, and recreational and competitive sailing. As usage details and facilities may change, check specific offerings with the club in advance.

Vikletice by the Lake

The largest concentration of campsites, beaches and recreational facilities at the reservoir is on the right bank near Vikletice. This makes Vikletice a prominent landmark for finding clusters of recreational options by the lake.

The observation tower in Vikletice is 13.8 meters high, and 54 steps lead to its viewing platform. The tower may occasionally be accessed with the permission of the owner of the Holiday Centrum. Check whether access is available before visiting.

Cultural History and Landscape

The Baroque Chapel of St. Anne in Vikletice was built in 1744–1745 and restored in 1909–1910. Its Rococo main altar bears a painting of St. Anne, painted in 1910 by Prague artist Joseph Wünsch. The architecture, restoration and altarpiece thus point to different periods in the chapel’s building and decorative history.

The Church of St. Martin in Soběsuky is surrounded by a cemetery wall and stands above the deeply cut valley of the Ohře. A Baroque sculpture group of St. John of Nepomuk dating from 1724 stands at the entrance. The early Baroque Marian column on the village square dates from 1694. Together, the two monuments represent different dates and religious motifs in the village landscape.

A protected black locust tree near Soběsuky is designated as a memorial tree. Its age is estimated at about 200 years; its trunk circumference, measured at a height of 1.3 meters, is 330 centimeters. Near Poláky was an extensive cemetery of the Bylany culture dating from the 7th to the 5th century BC, from which 54 graves were excavated. A public tour of Poláky Castle presents life on a rural aristocratic estate during the First Republic. It opened in 2024; check whether the tour is currently available before traveling there.
