If you choose Svinčice for a hotel stay, equestrian sports offer a natural starting point. The village is associated with them; at the same time, the topics range from sporting history to archaeological traces and the landscape of the Bohemian Central Highlands.

Equestrian Sports and Trail Rides

The Equipark Svinčice includes spacious horse stables and an indoor riding arena. Leisure and tourist trail rides are offered in Svinčice; from the Equipark, they lead into the area around the mountains of Zlatník, Zeleňák and Bořeň, as well as farther into the Bohemian Central Highlands. Beginners can receive basic riding instruction at the Equipark in the indoor arena under the guidance of instructors and trainers. If you plan to go trail riding or train, please confirm availability and the relevant conditions before your trip.

Riding Arena and Local History

Sporting history offers another perspective. Together with the arena in Prešov, the riding arena in Svinčice was among the first in Czechoslovakia to be built for full tournament and training operations. In preparation for the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, it served as a training venue for Jiří Pecháček and Andrej Glatz. The early focus on tournament and training operations, and the specific preparation of two riders for the Games in Moscow, represent two distinct aspects of the riding arena’s history.

The village’s history stretches back much further. Archaeological investigations in Svinčice uncovered settlement traces from the Late Stone Age and the Bronze Age; traces of the early Middle Ages were also found in the village centre. Svinčice was first mentioned in 1207 as a possession of the Cistercian monastery in Osek. Later, a fortress was built on an estate, initially owned by the Štampach family. The year 1207 marks the first mention, not the beginning of settlement: archaeological traces date back to earlier periods. Traces from several periods thus sit alongside a medieval record of ownership and the later history of the estate.

Landscape and Nature

Svinčice lies in a small hollow cut into the northern slope of the broad valley of the Lužický potok. The cadastral area belongs to the Bohemian Central Highlands. These two details describe different spatial scales: the hollow describes the village’s specific location on the north-facing slope, while its location in the Bohemian Central Highlands places it in the wider landscape. Svinčice can therefore be understood both through its position on the valley slope and in the broader regional context. The presence of the pasqueflower (Pulsatilla pratensis) is also part of the area’s natural heritage. For travellers interested in landscape and nature, this plant adds a specific point of interest to the village’s location and regional setting.
