Meziboří lies at an elevation of 550 metres above sea level on the slopes of the Ore Mountains and is surrounded by forest on all sides. The landscape, opportunities for hiking and cycling, and winter sports offer different reasons to stay. The town’s more recent history can also be traced through the development of its buildings.

Landscape and nature in Meziboří

The Lípy v Meziboří tree group consists of two small-leaved lime trees (Tilia cordata). It stands at the junction of Okružní and Potoční streets. Protection zones have been designated for the two trees: a circle with a radius of 12 metres surrounds tree 1, and one with a radius of 10 metres surrounds tree 2. The street names make it possible to locate this individual natural feature in the town and distinguish between its designated protection zones.

Another landscape landmark is the Loučenská hornatina Nature Park, which also extends into the administrative area of Meziboří. The tree group and the nature park offer nature lovers different scales: a clearly identified group of trees and a nature park that also includes the town’s administrative area.

Hiking and cycling on the Tesařova cesta

The Tesařova cesta is suitable for hiking and cycling thanks to its well-maintained path. It starts in Meziboří at the stadium, runs along the slope of Studenec towards Šumný důl, and continues through Pekelské údolí to a game reserve. These landmarks give the route a clear sequence—from the start at the stadium, along the slope and through the valley, to the game reserve.

Numerous educational panels along the route cover the geological development of the Ore Mountains as well as plants, animals, waterways, and the local population. The range of topics thus combines geology with the region’s natural and human dimensions. The condition of individual panels and local trail conditions may change; take this into account when planning your visit.

Skiing and other sports facilities

The Meziboří ski area has a public ski lift and downhill runs. The runs are open while the lift is operating; operating hours vary by season. Before planning a visit, check the current operating hours so you can plan your trip accordingly.

Local sports facilities also include a ski slope, two football stadiums, tennis courts, and a sports hall. The facilities cater to different sports. Individual facilities may be closed seasonally or for maintenance; check their current status before planning to use them.

Visitor information and local history

The Meziboří Information Centre provides information about tourist opportunities and transport connections in the region, and sells tourist maps of Meziboří. It also offers advance ticket sales for the city’s cultural events and public internet access. As these visitor services may change, check what is currently available if you are planning a specific visit.

A historical landmark is the 1949 decision: in Schönbach, later called Šenbach in Czech, it was decided to build a small town for apprentices in the heavy industry. Much of the original development was demolished and replaced with brick residential buildings and, later, apartment blocks. This sequence makes the transformation from older buildings to later housing a tangible part of the town’s history.
