Ryjice brings together two themes that offer different ways to shape a stay: the history of a former sanatorium and hiking trails that include Blansko Castle, Ryjice and Neštěmice along their routes. If you are looking for a hotel in Ryjice, you can first consider whether the historic site or a specific section of a hiking trail will shape your stay. This allows cultural history visits and hikes to stand alongside each other as distinct, concrete interests. The route descriptions differ in starting point, trail markings and course; distances are given for each named route.

The former sanatorium

Construction of a workers’ sanatorium called “Sanatorium pro plicně choré” began in Ryjice in 1895. The sanatorium’s first pavilion, called “HELLENENHEIM,” opened in 1902. The two dates mark different milestones: 1895 saw the start of construction of the overall project, while 1902 marked the opening of the first pavilion. The former sanatorium complex is a state-protected cultural monument. The name means “Sanatorium for Lung Patients.”

Blansko Castle

Blansko Castle, formerly also called Blankenštejn, was founded at the end of the 14th century. The ruins retain remains of the castle palace, as well as remnants of bastions and the tower. The palace is the main building of a castle; bastions are fortified parts of the complex, and the tower is another structural element. This distinction helps put the different surviving structures into context. Blansko Castle remains open to the general public; opening arrangements may vary. Check them before your visit if you are planning a specific day.

The historical highlights differ: for the sanatorium, the focus is on the construction start and the opening of the first pavilion in chronological order; for the castle, the founding at the end of the 14th century and the surviving structures are key points of reference. This makes it possible to distinguish the two cultural history themes.

Hiking trails with different routes

A marked hiking route leads down from Blansko Castle to Ryjice via the yellow trail. The 4 km return route of the NPÚ excursion goes from above Ryjice via the green trail to Neštěmice, where you can take public transport. Another hiking route via Blansko Castle continues through Ryjice to Neštěmice and ends at a public transport stop in Ústí. The four kilometres refer to the return route of the NPÚ excursion, while the yellow trail is specified for the section from the castle to Ryjice. These differences help you compare starting points, trail markings and routes. If you are using public transport, check the current timetable, as services may change.

This lets you match your choice of location to the activities you actually plan.
