Šebkovice: Hájky, Rotunda and Railway Connection
Accommodation in Šebkovice
Šebkovice combines natural and cultural attractions with a clearly described railway connection. When searching for a hotel, you can first consider whether Hájky, the history of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, views from Tašky Hill, or travelling by train are especially important for your stay.
Hájky and the Waterways
The Hájky nature monument is located in the municipality of Šebkovice, in the cadastral area of Milatice, in the Třebíč District of the Vysočina Region. It comprises a historic lime grove with natural undergrowth of herbs and shrubs. Its location is thus described at several levels: in addition to the municipality, it is identified by its cadastral area, district, and region. Four watercourses, including the Rokytná, also converge in the Šebkovice area. The grove and the waterways represent different aspects of the natural landscape: on the one hand, the trees and their undergrowth; on the other, the meeting of several watercourses.
Tašky: Cross and Views
A cross donated by local residents stands on Tašky Hill. From there, you can enjoy views of the church in Čáslavice, Sádek Castle and its vineyards, and the southeastern part of the Třebíčsko region. The view thus spans two individually named landmarks and a wider stretch of landscape.
Church of St. Mary Magdalene
The Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Šebkovice is a Romanesque rotunda with a horseshoe-shaped apse. In the mid-13th century, the apse was converted into a rectangular presbytery; further alterations were made in the 15th century. The building’s history can thus be read as a sequence: the Romanesque original was followed by the conversion of the presbytery, with further alterations made later. The church was also part of a fortified settlement. Three embrasures survive in the church and are associated with its defensive function. The building thus combines sacred architecture with evidence of a fortified settlement, while its alterations reveal different phases. It is a branch church of the parish of Babice. If you plan to attend a service, check the current schedule, as service times may change.
Bells and a Cross by František Bílek
The Bells of Reconciliation installed in Šebkovice bear the names St. Mary Magdalene, St. Francis of Paola, and St. Mary. There is also a cross by František Bílek, created in 1910, in the church grounds. The bells are distinguished by their names, while the cross is identified by its artist and date; both details add specific memorial features to the building’s history.
Getting There by Train
Šebkovice railway station is on line 241 from Znojmo via Okříšky to Jihlava and is part of an integrated transport system. The route and station services are separate points to consider when planning: tickets are not sold at the station; they are sold on the train. The station building, including the waiting room, is not wheelchair accessible. If you plan to travel by train, check the current timetable and service information before your journey. If you need step-free access, factor in the accessibility limitations of the station building and waiting room.
