The location on the northern slope of Zadní hora, the town’s history, and the routes described here offer different starting points for your trip to Čechočovice.

Landscape on the Northern Slope

Čechočovice lies on the northern slope of Zadní hora and extends towards the valley of the Stařečský potok stream. The Markvartický potok flows through the town. These are two distinct geographical features: the Stařečský potok is associated with the valley’s direction, while the Markvartický potok runs through Čechočovice. Together with the northern slope, these details describe the hillside setting, the valley, and a stream flowing through the town.

Local History and the Fortress

The first written mention of Čechočovice dates to 1358 and appears in the Brno Land Tables. Čechočovice may have been founded around 1300. These dates refer to different historical milestones: around 1300 is a possible founding date, while 1358 is the year of the first written mention. In the 14th and 15th centuries, Čechočovice was an independent estate and the seat of the local Vladik nobility, the lords of Čechočovice.

In 1499, the Čechočovice fortress became part of the Brtnice estate. It then ceased to serve as a residence and gradually fell into disrepair. The fortress is not accessible; check locally whether access is possible before planning a visit. If you are interested in medieval forms of lordship and residence, the fortress offers a specific connection to local history—as a historical subject alongside the routes. The independent estate and the seat of the lords of Čechočovice refer to the town in the 14th and 15th centuries; only later, in 1499, did the fortress become part of the Brtnice estate.

Hiking and Cycling

The Třebíčský okruh (Cesta Václava Vlastníka) is a 49.5-kilometre hiking trail marked with yellow tourist signs. Čechočovice is one of the towns listed along the route. The distance refers to the hiking trail; check the local markings for directions before setting out.

The “Rozhledna Mařenka – menší okruh” cycling tour passes through Stařeč, Čechočovice, Markvartice, and Chlístov. After the railway crossing, the route follows cycle path 5212 towards Stařeč. Check route conditions before setting off.

For an initial comparison: the hiking trail is distinguished by its total length and yellow markings, while the cycling tour is defined by the sequence of towns and its direction along cycle path 5212. This lets you include both hiking and cycling in your plans, based on the different features of each route.
