Discover Budišov: Castle, Park and Historic Churches
Accommodation in Budišov
If you’re looking for a hotel for a stay in Budišov, your travel plans may help you decide: castle rooms and collections, historic churches, routes through the town, or a visit to an annual event. Would you mainly like to visit the castle, choose a route, or plan around an event in the annual calendar?
Castle, Rooms and Collections
Budišov Castle stands on the site of a medieval water castle. On the Zámecký okruh tour, you can visit areas that were previously inaccessible: the Antický Salon, the Rybářský Salon, the restored Chapel of Saint Anna and the Sala terrena. The tour may change if access arrangements are adjusted; check the current tour programme before your visit.
The castle chapel is notable for its extensive High Baroque furnishings from the 18th century. The restored chapel was opened to the public in 2021; access today depends on the castle’s tour programme.
The zoological depot at Budišov Castle is open to visitors. The part accessible to the public displays the oldest collections of stuffed birds, mammals, fish and amphibians, as well as trophies from hunting expeditions to Africa, Asia and Canada. As detailed opening arrangements may change, check them before your visit.
Churches and Park
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and Saint Gotthard dates from the 12th century and preserves two Romanesque windows. Together with the High Baroque castle chapel, these offer different art-historical points of interest: the preserved Romanesque windows here and the 18th-century furnishings there. If you’re interested in architectural history, you can focus your visit on these two specific features.
Four ponds and a partially French-style design shape Budišov Castle Park. The landscape design offers a perspective of its own alongside the historic interiors and churches.
Routes and Annual Events
A blue-marked hiking trail passes through Budišov and connects Třebíč with Velká Bíteš. Cycle route 5206 also passes through Budišov and continues via Kundelov, Studnice and Oslava. The hiking trail connects two named places, while the cycle route is identified by its number and three places along its continuation. Both route details may change; check the route before setting out.
The annual Výroční trh, also known as the Spring Pilgrimage, takes place on Palm Sunday. Check the programme and participation details for the relevant year. Another pilgrimage takes place at Budišov parish church on a Sunday around the Feast of the Assumption of Mary on 15 August; the specific Sunday varies from year to year.
Getting There and Parking
