Chlumětín can be planned from several angles: hiking trails, connections with nature, and historic buildings in the village offer different starting points for a stay. When looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether hiking, the landscape, or the village’s character should be the deciding factor for your trip.

Hiking Trails and Distances

The Naučná stezka Chlumětín connects Chlumětín with the settlement of Krejcar and leads to the Volákův kopec natural monument. It is approximately five kilometres long and has only minor elevation changes. This gives you both an approximate distance and an indication of the elevation profile to consider when planning.

A circular hike from Chlumětín, on the edge of the Žďárské vrchy, initially follows the red-marked hiking route and the educational trail route towards Paseky. Chlumětín is the starting point for a circular hike of just under 22 kilometres along the edge of the Žďárské vrchy. In terms of length, this tour is considerably longer than the approximately five-kilometre Naučná stezka. The difference in scale can help you decide how much hiking to plan. As trail markings and route conditions can change, it is worth checking the current route before setting off.

Natural Monuments and Springs

Stará Cihelna is a natural monument on the cycling route to Chlumětín. It consists of a group of ponds in a restored former clay quarry used for brickmaking. Those interested in the history of the landscape can see a direct connection here between today’s ponds and the site’s former use for clay extraction.

Near Chlumětín, a granite obelisk marks Filipovský pramen as the source of the Chrudimka River. A hiking route from Chlumětín leads to this spring. It is the first of a total of 31 stops on the Krajem Chrudimky local heritage trail. The spring is therefore also a specific reference point for anyone interested in the route of this heritage trail.

Wooden Houses and Chapel in the Village

Several original wooden houses stand on Chlumětín’s village square. Rural House No. 32 is a remnant of a formerly larger timber homestead; the Chapel of the Virgin Mary dates from 1881. These examples highlight different features: the village square presents a group of original wooden buildings, House No. 32 points to the former size of a homestead, and the chapel provides a precisely dated building. The difference between a group of buildings and the remnant of a larger farmstead brings different scales of rural architecture into focus.

Practical Information

The Via Czechia itinerary lists food supplies and bus service in Chlumětín. This is useful for general orientation but does not replace a current timetable. Before your trip, check the bus connections and, if needed, the availability of supplies if these factors will affect your day’s plans.
