Chlumek – Chapel, Landscape and Nature Trail
Accommodation in Chlumek
Chlumek lies in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands at an elevation of about 586 metres above sea level. Hilly terrain, predominantly coniferous forests, extensive meadows and small fields characterize the surrounding area. In the village, the Chapel of the Holy Trinity adds an architectural feature; a 12-kilometre nature trail also leads to Chlumek. If you are looking for a hotel in Chlumek, you can choose from a range of interests: architecture, landscape and a specific hiking route. Depending on whether you place greater emphasis on architecture, local events or hiking, Chlumek offers different highlights.
Chapel and Monument
The Chapel of the Holy Trinity in Chlumek is listed as a protected monument. It is a freestanding Neoclassical chapel dating from the first third of the 19th century, and it has a small bell tower. It also contributes to the design of the village square. Its architectural style, period and form provide different clues for placing the chapel in its architectural context.
To the right of the façade is a stone cross with a Calvary group. The cross is a separate feature: it stands beside the façade, while the information about the style, date and bell tower refers to the chapel itself. This allows the building, the design of the village square and the adjacent stone feature to be considered separately.
Events in Chlumek
The Masopustní průvod organised by SDH Chlumek is a traditional masked procession. On Saturday, 27 January 2024, a masked procession made its way through Chlumek, setting off from the fire station. The Chlumecký bluegrass festival took place on 5 August 2023 as its 15th edition at the Výletiště in Chlumek. This means a procession with a specific starting point and a festival with a named venue are both held in the village.
The 2025 dates also show different types of events: At Rozloučení s létem on 5 September, 66 children took part in a programme featuring ten activities. The Volejbalový turnaj in Chlumek was announced for 7 June 2025 as its 22nd edition. If you would like to plan your trip around an event, check the dates for your travel period.
Landscape and Nature Trail
The Naučná stezka městyse Měřín nature trail is 12 kilometres long, leads to Chlumek and then follows a yellow-marked hiking route towards Měřín. It runs along asphalt and paved farm tracks. Its length, markings and surface provide different clues for planning: the length indicates the extent of the route, the yellow markings indicate the onward direction towards Měřín, and the surface indicates the type of track.
The hilly landscape, coniferous forests, meadows and small fields describe the natural setting of Chlumek. By contrast, the length, markings and surface refer specifically to the nature trail. This distinction helps you consider the character of the village separately from the practical information about the hiking route.
