When looking for a hotel for a trip to Cidlina, it helps to be clear about the focus of your stay: the natural landscape, the historic village layout, and an annual traditional event each offer different points of interest. This can help you decide whether Blatná hráz, the history of the village green, or Den medu is most relevant to your travel plans.

Nature and seasonal interests

The Blatná hráz Nature Reserve lies within the cadastral area of the municipality of Cidlina, covers 4.46 ha, and was designated in 2002. Its landscape includes a floodplain meadow along the naturally meandering Šebkovický potok and remnants of alder stands alongside the stream. If waterways and floodplain landscapes are a particular consideration when choosing a destination, these features offer a specific point of reference. The reserve thus offers a different focus from the historic village layout around the village green.

Cidlina’s forests also offer opportunities for mushroom picking. Species include porcini, chanterelles, and boletes. Mushroom picking is a seasonal nature activity, and conditions vary with the weather. If this is important to your trip, take its seasonal nature into account rather than assuming you will find particular mushrooms.

Facilities at Zahrada Cidlina in the center include a pavilion, sets of benches and tables, bicycle racks, and an information board with a map. The map can help you find your way around. Check the current condition of the grounds before your visit.

Village history and buildings

The early settlement of Cidlina consisted of fewer than ten farmsteads arranged around an oval village green. The green ran lengthwise along the course of the Cidlinský potok. This settlement pattern adds an account of the village’s layout at the time to the view of individual historic buildings.

A wooden bell tower stands on the village green. A memorial to the victims of the 1914–1918 World War, dating from 1932, is also located there. The bell tower and memorial provide different historical points of reference for the green: a building and a commemoration of the victims of the wartime period. There is also a brick chapel near House No. 40 on the road to Bitovánky.

The Haberská stezka also plays a role in the history of the settlement area. According to historians, it influenced Cidlina as early as prehistoric times and connected Znojemsko with Polabí. This connection adds a wider historical context to Cidlina, while the village green and its buildings illustrate local history.

Events and travel

Den medu is one of the traditional annual events held in Cidlina. The market in the 2019 edition featured bee products, honey specialties, candles, honey gingerbread, and other local products; the selection may vary from one edition to another. If you would like to plan your trip around Den medu, check the event dates.

Road II/410 Třebíč–Jemnice–Hluboká–state border passes through the cadastral area of Cidlina. Bus services connect the village with the surrounding area. If you are traveling by bus, check the timetables separately and plan around your preferred travel date.
