You can get to know Horní Heřmanice through its local memorials, landscape and two different cycling routes. These topics offer factual points of reference when choosing a destination: the village has individual historical memorials, while landscape designations and routes cover broader geographical areas. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first consider whether cultural heritage, the landscape or one of the routes described suits the purpose of your trip.

History and local memorials

Horní Heřmanice was first mentioned in 1447 under the historical name Superius Herzmanicze. This historical form of the name belongs to its first recorded mention; today the village is called Horní Heřmanice. From 1563, Heřmanice and Velké Meziříčí were under the same lordship. Thus, an early record of the name and a later shared lordship are two distinct points of reference.

In the centre, between two lime trees, stands a small chapel with a cross. The memorial stone in Horní Heřmanice bears a relief of a Greek cross and has an irregular triangular base. The memorial stone’s motif and shape are two separate features: the Greek cross appears as a relief, while the irregular triangular shape describes the stone’s base. A crucifix is listed as a cultural monument in Horní Heřmanice.

Landscape and views of the village

The area around Horní Heřmanice is part of the Třebíčsko-Velkomeziříčsko landscape character area. The Třebíčsko landscape character zone is also designated within the municipality. Its features include a diverse landscape mosaic, syenite rocks and block-like islands. The two designations refer to different geographical levels: the landscape character area and the landscape character zone designated within the municipality.

A “vyhlídka na obec” (viewpoint overlooking the village) is designated as a significant viewpoint with a view of Horní Heřmanice. The southern part of the administrative area is within Třebíčsko Nature Park. The viewpoint designation refers to the view of the village, whereas the nature park designation applies only to the southern part of the administrative area. Thus, a specific view and a geographically limited nature park designation are noted separately.

Cycling routes with different points of reference

The cycling routes can also be distinguished by their specific landmarks. Beyond Horní Heřmanice, the cycling trip follows a blue-marked hiking trail leading into the Balínské údolí. The cycling trip to Velké Meziříčí, which heads in the direction of Horní Heřmanice, is 54.6 km long. After turning off cycling route 5112, the route continues straight at a junction towards Bochovice and Horní Heřmanice.

Different details are useful for your planning: for the route beyond the village, the blue marking and destination in the Balínské údolí are the key points; the trip to Velké Meziříčí also gives a distance and specific directions. This allows you to assess the cycling routes by their stated destinations and respective landmarks.
