Discover Jimramov

Jimramov lies at the confluence of the Fryšávka and Svratka rivers in the Hornosvratecká vrchovina, on the eastern edge of the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. This setting gives the town a distinct landscape context. In the historic town centre, architectural history, culture and local figures take centre stage. Depending on your interests, you can explore the layout of the town, individual buildings or the exhibitions.

Town Centre and Architecture

The urban heritage conservation area was designated in 1990. It is centred on a long, narrow square that tapers in a funnel shape. Most of the square is lined with houses featuring 19th-century historicist façades. The term historicism refers to an architectural style that draws on earlier styles; the square’s façades therefore differ from the early Classicist elements of the church nave, the later-added Empire-style tower of the Protestant church, and the castle, which was remodelled in the Classicist style.

A tour of the heritage conservation area includes 11 stops, marked on the façades of the buildings. The houses themselves thus provide guidance for each stop. As you follow the tour, you can connect the marked stops with the square as a whole: its elongated, narrow shape and predominantly historicist façades together form the town’s distinctive character.

Churches and the Castle Through the Ages

The Protestant church shows two distinct building phases. Its nave was built between 1784 and 1786 and features early Classicist elements; the Empire-style tower was added between 1883 and 1884. The same building thus reveals a nave dating from the late 18th century and a later addition from the late 19th century. The high-quality organ is used for church services and concerts.

Jimramov Castle also brings together different periods: the Renaissance building was remodelled in the Classicist style in the 18th century. One specific milestone in its history is the year 1746. At that time, Marie Antonie z Waldorfu had the castle’s north wing and a covered passage to the oratory of the Catholic church built. The 18th-century remodelling and this dated extension provide a different historical reference point from the building’s Renaissance origins.

Exhibitions and Culture

Síň rodáků, also known as Síň Rodáků jimramovska, is devoted to the life and work of Jan Karafiát. Other exhibitions explore life in Vysočina, including a nativity scene by local woodcarver Pivoňka, as well as people born in Jimramov. The subjects range from an individual person to regional life and crafts, and the history of the town. Exhibition content may change.

Bludník Park and the Otevřeno Festival

Bludník Park is a former English-style castle park dating from around 1800. Trees from the original arboretum have survived. Both its historic layout and these trees are important to understanding the park: they connect it to the time when it was created, without reducing its character to a single building.

The Otevřeno Festival has been held in the park since 1990. If you would like to combine your trip with the festival, check the current dates and programme in advance. This lets you plan a visit to the park separately from choosing a specific event date. Jimramov’s heritage conservation area and buildings reveal the history of the town and its architecture; the park and festival offer a distinct cultural focus.
