Krahulov combines traces of its local history with a landscape shaped by Krahulovský kopec, a stream valley, and ponds to the south. For planning a stay, the Hradiště cultural area, the Church of St. Peter in Chains, and the marked Třebíčský okruh offer specific points of interest. The Okříšky–Znojmo railway line is also part of the local travel picture. Depending on whether you are more interested in history, architecture, or trails and waterways, you can include the different sides of the town in your hotel and daily itinerary planning.

Cultural History in Krahulov

The Hradiště cultural area is located on the site of Krahulov’s vanished fortress and is locally called “kolo.” The fortress was founded in the second half of the 13th century. A fortified area within the cultural site is used as a dance floor. The fortress’s history and its present-day use are two distinct aspects of the same site.

The Church of St. Peter in Chains stands on elevated ground in the middle of the cemetery. It is a late Romanesque building with Baroque alterations and is listed as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The combination of its construction period and later alterations makes the church a distinct cultural and historical point of interest in Krahulov.

A word service is held at the church at 9:00 a.m. on the first and third Sunday of each month; a Holy Mass is celebrated at 6:00 p.m. on the Friday after the third Sunday. Details are subject to change. If you plan to attend a service, please check the date in advance.

Sad svobody is also part of the town’s history: it was established in 1919 in memory of fallen residents. In chronological comparison, this memorial site comes after the fortress’s founding in the second half of the 13th century. These two dates mark different periods in Krahulov’s history.

Hill, Stream, and Ponds

Krahulovský kopec reaches an elevation of 505 meters and, together with the stream valley, shapes the local landscape. The Parný Mlýn pond lies south of Krahulov. The Stařečský potok flows through the Parný Mlýn and Steklý rybník ponds south of Krahulov and empties into the Jihlava. The area’s waterways can therefore be understood both through its individual ponds and through the course of the stream.

Hiking Trail and Rail Connection

The 49.5-kilometer yellow-marked Třebíčský okruh (Cesta Václava Vlastníka) hiking trail passes through Krahulov. This is the length of the entire loop; the section passing through Krahulov is the route’s local connection. If you include the trail in your travel plans, you can distinguish between its total length and the section associated with the town.

The Okříšky–Znojmo railway line runs through Krahulov and provides a train connection for visitors to the holiday settlement at Steklý rybník as well. Travel planning can therefore take into account both a marked hiking route and the town’s rail connection. If you plan to travel by train, check the timetable for your chosen date.
