Mladoňovice: Pilgrimage and local history
Accommodation in Mladoňovice
Mladoňovice can be explored through several clearly distinct themes: the pilgrimage tradition of Dobrá Voda, the history of the village, and a pond offering a local place to relax. When planning your trip, it is helpful to choose your main interest first: religious buildings and tradition, local history, or time by the water. Each theme offers a different perspective on the municipality.
Pilgrimage and chapels in Dobrá Voda
Dobrá Voda has been a pilgrimage site since the 18th century. This tradition gives Mladoňovice a religious association and forms a distinct focus alongside the local history. The so-called Water Chapel in the settlement of Dobrá Voda was built in the mid-18th century, probably between 1725 and 1745; it has been a protected monument since 1958. A spring emerges from a pipe beneath its niche, in the faced wall, and flows away through a channel in the floor. Thus, the religious character and the architectural design of the water outlet together form part of the character of the place.
The pilgrimage chapel of the Name of the Virgin Mary (Jména Panny Marie) stands on a hill above the chapel with the spring. A staircase connects the two chapels. Their positions establish their relationship: the chapel with the spring is below, and the Marian chapel stands above it on the hill. The pilgrimage takes place on the Sunday after the Feast of the Holy Name of Mary, which the Roman Catholic Church celebrates on September 12. If you are considering this date as a reason for your trip, check which Sunday it falls on in the year concerned.
Petr Mladoň and local history
Petr Mladoň was born in Mladoňovice in 1390 and was elected rector of the university in 1439. The two dates mark different stages of his life: his birth in the village was followed later by an academic appointment. The exhibition about Petr Mladoň was established in 2012 in a former poorhouse next to the municipal office. It includes collections on the history of the municipality, archaeological finds from its surroundings, and other historical records about Mladoňovice. Its subject matter thus ranges from biography to the history of the municipality and its surroundings.
Architectural remains add to this view of the village. Remains of a medieval fortress have survived in Mladoňovice. The Chapel of St Florian, with a large stone cross, is a village landmark. The fortress remains point to medieval history, while the Florian Chapel, with its patron saint and stone cross, adds a distinct religious note.
Relaxation at the Asuán fishpond
The Asuán fishpond adds another focus. It covers 6,000 m² and offers opportunities for local recreation. Unlike the chapels, exhibition, and historic buildings, the focus here is on recreation by the water. When choosing Mladoňovice according to your travel interests, you can distinguish this focus from pilgrimage and local history.
Location and orientation
Dobrá Voda is part of the municipality of Mladoňovice and lies one kilometre south of the main village. The II/408 road from Jemnice to Znojmo also runs through Dobrá Voda. These are two different kinds of information for orientation: the first locates the settlement within the municipality, while the second describes the route of a named road connection.
