Osové: Forests, the Oslava and Horse-Riding Activities
Accommodation in Osové
Osové offers points of interest for those interested in landscapes, nature and history, as well as horse-riding activities. If you are looking for a hotel in Osové, you can first consider which of these aspects you want to shape your stay. The local features vary in scale and type, ranging from forest areas and bodies of water to an ecologically classified site and specific activity options.
Forests, River and Pond
Almost half of Osové’s cadastral area consists of extensive forest complexes, mainly in the south and west. The Oslava runs along the eastern boundary of the cadastral area; the Nesměřské Valley, which is particularly valuable in terms of landscape and natural features, lies along it. North of the built-up part of Osové, the Osovák pond lies on an unnamed tributary of the Oslavička. Osové is also located in a landscape of value that is used for recreation.
These features vary in their geographical reach: the forest complexes cover large areas, while the river is identified as the eastern boundary and the pond is located in relation to the built-up area. Thus, broad landscape features sit alongside individual bodies of water whose locations are specified.
Ecological Features
The municipality is home to the Libenice VM002 site, designated for specially protected species and regionally significant biotopes. It comprises remnants of mixed forest with species-rich ground vegetation. Its ecological classification may change in future planning stages. The two designations identify different ecological priorities; the description of the mixed-forest remnants adds a specific vegetation feature.
The municipal area is also home to the memorial tree “Dub v Nesměři.” It is a single named natural landmark, whereas Libenice VM002 is an ecologically classified site with described forest remnants. The two natural features therefore differ in both scale and significance.
Educational Trail and Horse-Riding Activities
The “Balinského a Nesměřského údolí” educational trail runs through the cadastral area of Osové. If you plan to include it in your trip, check the signs and route on site before travelling. A planned 8 km connecting loop was intended to run from Baliny through Osové to “Panské hájence” in Nesměř. Unlike the educational trail, this is a proposal; check its current markings before travelling as well. The two route descriptions therefore have different statuses: the educational trail runs through the area, while the loop is described as a planned connection.
The JK Hort horse-riding centre at Osové 12 focuses on Western riding, horse riding, show jumping and agrotourism. This is a distinct activity focus alongside the area’s landscape and route features. For travellers interested in horse riding, the centre’s focus provides a specific local point of interest; the educational trail, by contrast, offers a nature-oriented experience.
Local History
The first written mention of Osové dates back to 1354. For travellers interested in history, this provides a clear point of reference: the local history can be linked to a specific written record.
