Prosetín lies in a rising valley at an elevation of 540 to 590 metres above sea level and in the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park. The valley setting provides the landscape backdrop, while the Kocoury Natural Monument adds a specific plant habitat.

Nature and Landscape

Kocoury is an important natural feature in Prosetín and also a small strip of woodland with thermophilous vegetation on limestone bedrock. It is home to grass-rich plant communities with species of phytogeographical importance, as well as a population of the endangered wood anemone (Anemone sylvestris); this population is under special protection. Its flowering is seasonal. The limestone soil, thermophilous vegetation and wood anemone give the Natural Monument a distinctive botanical profile.

Churches and Local History

The Catholic Church of St. Margaret has a separate brick bell tower. The church replaced an earlier wooden building in 1738. The bell tower contains three bells: one from 1534 and two from 1925. The date of one bell therefore predates the replacement of the earlier church building; the other two bells are from a later period.

An Evangelical church dating from the second half of the 18th century stands in the northern part of Prosetín, with the local cemetery adjoining it. The Evangelical Toleration Prayer House in Prosetín was built in 1782 in accordance with the provisions of Joseph II’s Patent of Toleration. The history of Evangelical architecture is also linked to the Prosetín Oak: the tree has stood for several centuries and played an important role in the construction of the local Evangelical church.

During the Second World War, the Prosetín Oak served as a starting point for a local partisan group. The group hid in the area around the Evangelical church and concealed a radio there. The town’s history goes back further still: medieval sources first mention Prosetín in 1390.

On the site of the former lime kiln, the chimney, kiln and concrete foundations of the former wooden bridge remain. If you include these historic remains in your plans, check access locally.

Walking and Cycling Routes

Part of the Štěpánovský čtyřlístek educational trail passes through Prosetín. A section of cycle route 5087 also runs through the northern part. Cycle route 5086 runs through the eastern part and leads from Starý Svojanov to Nedvědice. The two cycle route numbers help distinguish the sections described: for route 5087, the northern part of Prosetín is specified; for route 5086, the eastern part and the route between the two towns are specified.

At the edge of the village, a hiking route turns onto the yellow-marked trail towards Olešnice. As markings can change, check them locally before setting out. Before cycling, also check conditions on the cycle routes mentioned.

Prosetínské trubičky

The local culinary specialities include Prosetínské trubičky. They are made using a traditional recipe with butter puff pastry, topped with light egg-white meringue and a little lemon juice. This gives the pastry its described combination of puff pastry, meringue and a hint of lemon.
