Radenice offers several starting points for planning a trip: historical landmarks in the village, Holý vrch above the village and views from field paths towards Bory and Cyrilov. The Antonínská pilgrimage festival, held regularly in June, and the Běh kolem Holého vrchu half-marathon also offer distinct focal points. You can plan your stay around local history, the landscape or an event date.

Local history and historical landmarks

The larger historic part of the village was first mentioned in writing in 1481, and the smaller part in 1483. Radenice was once divided into two parts; the two years refer to different parts and are only two years apart. The Chapel of St Anthony stands in the village square. It was built in 1901 and renovated in 1994. The construction year and renovation mark two distinct periods in its history.

Folk-style houses from the 19th century add to the architectural character. A monument commemorates those who fell in the First and Second World Wars. Crosses are also among the village’s notable features, though they stand in different locations: a syenite cross stands on a bend in the road to Jívoví; a marble cross dating from 1898 is located in front of the inn in Radenice. The material, location and date give each of these landmarks its own point of reference. The old Tiský dvůr manor farm is also near the Radenice forest.

For a focus on cultural history, these different kinds of landmarks can be considered together: the chapel, 19th-century houses, the war memorial, the crosses and the manor farm. The dates are not interchangeable: 1481 and 1483 refer to the first written mentions of the two historic parts, 1898 dates the marble cross, 1901 the construction of the chapel and 1994 its renovation.

Holý vrch and the surrounding area

Holý vrch rises above Radenice to 662.2 metres above sea level. In addition to this elevation, the hill is described as a mineralogical site with quartz, smoky quartz, feldspar and tourmaline. Its elevation and minerals offer two different perspectives on the same place: Holý vrch is a named rise above Radenice and is also characterised by specific minerals.

Field paths towards Bory and Cyrilov offer views of the Novoměstsko and Velkomeziříčsko regions. Hiking is named as a leisure activity in the area around Radenice, along with a preserved cultural landscape. If you would like to combine the landscape and local history in your plans, you can explore both the viewpoints from the field paths and the village’s historical landmarks as distinct themes.

Events and activities

The Antonínská pilgrimage festival is held regularly in June. Its programme includes a church service and entertainment. The festival therefore combines religious and entertainment events. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the event dates before making your plans.

The Běh kolem Holého vrchu is another specific event connected with Radenice and the hill of the same name: its route passes through the village and over Holý vrch. The race is a half-marathon covering 21.1 kilometres. If you are planning a trip around the race, check the event dates.

There are several ways to choose a focus for your trip: dates and architectural landmarks for exploring local history, minerals as a distinctive feature of Holý vrch, views from field paths, and two events described as recurring or specific. You can give these themes different levels of emphasis, depending on whether you would like to discover Radenice primarily through its history, its surroundings or an event date.
