Radonín: Nature and History
Accommodation in Radonín
Radonín brings together natural and cultural features found in several distinct places: above the village is a protected natural monument, a small chapel stands in the centre, and the ruins of Střeliště are in the woods near Radonín. These different highlights can help you decide on your trip: landscape and plant life, historic buildings or individual cultural sites. This makes it easier to assess the area according to the themes that matter to you when choosing a travel destination.
Nature and castle: two highlights
The Na Kopaninách natural monument lies above Radonín. It is protected for its natural pasture and the Bohemian gentian. This combination gives the natural setting a specific focus: it is about both a pasture and a named plant species. If you are considering Radonín for its landscape, this is a clear point of interest. Na Kopaninách therefore represents a different highlight from the area's architectural and cultural monuments.
Střeliště Castle complements this natural setting with a historic ruin in the woods near Radonín. It is freely accessible and was built in the first half of the 13th century. In 1579, it was first mentioned as already being in ruins. Its construction and state of disrepair mark two distinct stages in its history. To understand the castle, both its medieval origins and its documented status as a ruin as early as the 16th century are relevant.
Chapel and village centre
A small chapel stands in the middle of Radonín's village square. Its bell rings three times a day. This connects the building in the village square with a recurring daily sound. The chapel offers a different way to experience local landmarks than Střeliště Castle: it stands in the centre of the village square, while the castle is in the woods near Radonín.
Individual cultural traces
Another cultural landmark is the Smírčí kámen in Radonín. It is an immovable cultural monument and probably dates from the Middle Ages. The stone is a rectangular granite slab. A Latin cross with cut-out arms and a sword are carved into it as raised reliefs. Unlike the castle, the focus here is not a building but a single stone with a clearly described shape and imagery. It currently stands at the edge of the woods near a recreational building; its location therefore differs from both the village-square chapel and the ruin in the woods.
Cycling route and hiking trail
There are two different points of interest to consider when choosing a route. The “Údolím Brtnice a Balinky do Křižanova” cycling route goes to Radonín and passes the niche chapel of the Holy Trinity. The chapel was built in 1867 and features a relief of the Holy Trinity. The U svaté trojice spring is about 150 metres from the niche chapel. This provides two named points of interest and an approximate distance between them.
The “Vlakem a pěšky do divočiny Třebíč - Číchov” hiking trip passes through Radonín. The cycling route is associated with the niche chapel, while the hiking trip includes Radonín as part of its route. Route conditions may vary; check them before your trip.
