Radostín Nad Oslavou combines historic religious architecture, cultural traditions and a gently rolling landscape. The parish Church of St. Bartholomew, the Becheráček theatre group and the local landscape features offer different perspectives on the town. When choosing your destination, you can decide whether you are particularly interested in architectural history, culture or nature.

The Church of St. Bartholomew complex

The parish Church of St. Bartholomew complex is the most significant historic building in Radostín Nad Oslavou and also the town’s only notable monument listed in the State Register of Immovable Cultural Monuments. The complex comprises the parish church building, a detached tower, a detached chapel and a masonry perimeter wall. Its historic scope therefore extends beyond the church building alone.

The original complex of the early Gothic church was remodelled in the late Baroque style in the 1770s. During the work, the nave was extended by about a third and the tower was raised by adding the present bell stage. The building’s history thus combines an early Gothic origin with a clearly dated later remodelling phase. The nave extension and the tower’s increased height are two distinct changes that make the character of the remodelling tangible.

Religious landmarks in the landscape

On Šibeniční vrch, north of Radostín Nad Oslavou, the group known as Tři kříže forms a Calvary scene. Together with mature trees, it is a prominent feature of the landscape. The church complex and the group of crosses represent different forms of religious expression: here, articulated architecture with a history of remodelling; there, a religious scene that stands out as part of the landscape.

Hills, valleys and water

The landscape around Radostín Nad Oslavou is gently rolling, shaped by slopes and fields, with forests closing off the horizon. Streams flow through the valleys, where numerous ponds were created in the past. Open spaces and wooded horizons meet a landscape shaped by streams and former ponds. The Oslava is the largest river associated with Radostín Nad Oslavou.

The Bohdalovsko Nature Park, in the wider region, offers a broader connection with nature. It includes numerous ponds with rare plants and animals. This regional natural area complements the local view of the landscape without being equated with the slopes, fields and valleys of Radostín Nad Oslavou.

Theatre and cultural events

The amateur theatre group Becheráček was officially founded in 1911, and its tradition continues to this day. The group regularly holds its premiere in March. The six subsequent performances are attended by around 1,200 people from Radostín Nad Oslavou and the surrounding area. The tradition thus combines a long history with a recurring performance schedule.

At Tvořivé večery, participants create, among other things, arrangements of dried and fresh plants, wire and beadwork, batik, embroidery, crochet work, felt crafts made from sheep’s wool and various decorations. The examples range from plant arrangements to work with yarn, wool and other materials. A Christmas exhibition has been prepared annually during Advent since 2013, and an Easter exhibition has also been held since 2016. Proceeds from admission fees and sales of the items are used for charitable purposes. If you are planning to attend a performance or exhibition, check the current event dates.

Mill and long-distance cycling route

Švomův mlýn lies east of the centre of Radostín Nad Oslavou, by the bridge on the road to Kněževes. A building called Švomův mlýn already stood in Radostín Nad Oslavou around 1510. The cycle route passing through the town forms part of a thematic long-distance cycling route almost 185 kilometres long. This thematic cycling route adds a separate long-distance cycling option to your travel plans.
