Radostín: Moorland, nature trail and cross-country skiing
Accommodation in Radostín
Radostín combines the moorland of the Radostínské rašeliniště with a clear winter focus: cross-country skiing on the Radostínský okruh. The Dářská rašeliniště nature trail adds a nature-focused perspective. For planning your trip, both the distinctive features of the moor and the seasonal conditions on the ski trail are therefore relevant.
Moorland and nature
The Radostínské rašeliniště is a transitional bog of the watershed bog type and is home to characteristic plant and animal communities. The plant communities include Scots pines and their hybrids with the rare bog pine, which is typical of the area. The kyhanka sivolistá also continues to grow in the bog; more than 500 butterfly species have been recorded there. Nature enthusiasts can therefore explore different aspects: the plant life and its tree communities, as well as the diversity of butterflies.
The deepest moorland area in the region lies within the Dářko National Nature Reserve; it is also home to the last natural stand of bog pine in the region. These two features relate to different aspects of the reserve: its moorland and the population of a tree species.
Nature trail and access route
The Dářská rašeliniště nature trail has twelve information stops and two viewing points; part of the route runs along a wooden boardwalk. The stops provide a structure for learning about nature, while the viewing points offer additional vantage points.
You can reach the Radostínské rašeliniště via a green-marked trail through a birch avenue. As trail conditions can change, check the state of the access route before your visit.
Cross-country skiing in winter
The Radostínský okruh is an 11.2-kilometre cross-country ski trail that starts and finishes in Radostín. The route runs via Padrtiny along the Velké Dářko pond, through the Dářko National Nature Reserve and back from Karlov to Radostín. It follows forest tracks, meadows and fields. The local purple trail marking is a horizontal stripe; confirm it on the ground for your outing. Whether the trail can be used in winter depends on snow cover and grooming. Check both conditions before making your plans.
The distance and place names answer different planning questions: 11.2 kilometres indicates the length of the route, while Padrtiny, Velké Dářko and Karlov help you understand its course. This lets you consider the distance and landmarks separately. The choice between the nature trail and ski trail also depends on what you are looking for: the nature trail combines information about the moor with viewing points, while the Radostínský okruh is a cross-country skiing option whose use depends on winter conditions.
Culture in the village
The procession in honour of Saint Rosalia was revived in Radostín in 1990; it is listed as taking place on the first Sunday in September. If you are planning your trip around it, check the event date in advance.
