Rosička: Lookout Tower, Chapel and Landscape
Accommodation in Rosička
Rosička combines a striking setting with a lookout tower and a chapel in the village centre. The village lies in the western part of the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. When planning your trip, it is useful to distinguish between the different highlights: Rosička Hill lies west of the settlement, while the chapel stands in the middle of the village square. This places nature and elevation alongside a tangible trace of the village’s history.
Landscape and Lookout Tower
Rosička Hill lies at 645 metres above sea level and is the second-highest point in the microregion. The Rosička Lookout Tower stands on the hill of the same name near the village. Its position west of the settlement helps you orient yourself locally, while the hill’s ranking also places it within the microregion.
The tower was built in 2001 as a 42-metre-high telecommunications mast. Its observation platform is 24 metres above the ground and can be reached via 140 steps. The structure and the platform therefore have different height measurements. If you are planning to climb it, allow time for the steps as a separate activity and check current access before your visit.
Chapel and Village History
The “Kaple Panny Marie” chapel stands in the middle of Rosička’s village square. It was probably built around the middle of the 19th century. The traditional hand-ringing of the bells is still practised there today. The approximate construction date and the continuing tradition bring together a historical connection and local practice at this site.
Walking Trails and Nature Conservation
Another nature attraction in the Žďárské vrchy is the Babín educational trail. This easy, six-kilometre walking route has six stops and passes through the best-preserved natural areas of the region. It explains the special importance of forests, peat bogs, wetlands and ponds. The route thus combines a clearly stated length with a thematic introduction to different natural environments. As trail conditions can change seasonally, check them before setting out.
Nearby, Babín Pond and Matějovský Pond form a nature reserve. It protects a peat bog as well as plants, animals and waterfowl.
To choose between the educational trail and the lookout tower, you can compare the details: the trail is an easy six-kilometre walk with six stops, while reaching the tower’s platform involves climbing 140 steps. You can therefore choose between a walking route and a staircase climb as two different types of activity.
The locations also help with planning: the chapel is in the village, while the lookout tower stands on the hill near Rosička. The Babín educational trail passes through natural areas of the Žďárské vrchy and offers a regional nature experience. This makes it possible to distinguish between destinations in the village and a nature trail through the landscape, depending on your travel interests.
