Rovečné: Churches, Trails and Natural Swimming Pool
Accommodation in Rovečné
Rovečné offers several points of interest to help you plan your trip: two churches with different building histories, a monument to those who fell in the First World War, and the route to the Horní les lookout tower. For outdoor activities, useful points of reference include the hiking route’s continuous red trail marking and the tower’s seasonal access. The swimming pool and sports court add summer and sporting activities to the options; for your plans, check the current conditions or how the facilities are currently being used.
Churches and Local History
The Church of St Martin is a single-nave Baroque building with a tower on the façade, built in 1721. Its bell dates from 1547, making it older than the tower. The two dates refer to different features of the same church. The protected cultural monument also includes the cemetery, the cemetery wall and the surrounding linden trees.
The Protestant church in Rovečné tells a second story of construction. Work began in 1897, and the church was completed within 15 months. The organ was supplied by the Tuček company of Kutná Hora and is still in use today. The construction period and the organ add a more recent chapter, with a specific link to the tradition of organ building, to the Baroque history of the Church of St Martin.
The monument to those who fell in the First World War was ceremonially unveiled on 28 October 1928. Together with the churches, it is another historical point of reference in Rovečné. Its date differs both from the construction period of the Protestant church and from the older features of the Church of St Martin.
Hiking Route and Horní les Lookout Tower
The hiking route “From Rovečné to the Horní les Lookout Tower” begins in the square in Rovečné and follows a red-marked hiking trail along its entire length. If conditions change, check the trail markings on site. This lets you account for the route when planning without assuming a particular walking time or level of difficulty.
The path to Horní les is accessible only to pedestrians and cyclists from the small car park opposite the health centre. Horní les is 774.3 metres high and the highest point of the Svratecká hornatina highlands. The Horní les Lookout Tower is open to the public every year from 15 April to 15 October. If you plan to visit the tower, check before travelling whether your visit falls within this seasonal period.
Swimming Pool and Sports Court
The swimming pool is in the upper part of Rovečné, on the northern edge of the village, and is used as a natural swimming pool in summer. It measures 30 × 25 metres and is up to 2 metres deep. Confirm the dimensions before your visit, and also check the current operating status and water conditions if you are planning a day of swimming.
The multi-purpose sports court by the school is currently in operation for tennis and volleyball only. You can check available slots using the reservation feature. Its current use may change once the facility is completed; therefore, check the reservation when making specific plans for a sporting activity.
