Accommodation in Svratka
If you’re looking for a hotel in Svratka, the town’s different attractions can help guide your plans: local history, art and nature can be combined with outdoor activities. A nature trail, a town museum, two galleries and a historic church offer different ways to explore the area. There is also a swimming pool, a golf course and cross-country ski trails. Consider which of these interests matter most to you during your stay.
A trail through history and nature
The “Svratka, jejĂ historie a pĹ™Ăroda” nature trail is a 3.35-kilometre circular route with twelve stops and information boards. It starts at námÄ›stĂ 9. kvÄ›tna in Svratka. Its name alone points to its themes of history and nature. The length, circular route and starting point give you practical guidance when planning a walk. Trail conditions may vary depending on the weather.
Church and town history
The Church of St John the Baptist brings together several historical points of reference. It is mentioned around 1350; originally, it was probably a wooden building in the Gothic style. The bell tower houses the Panna Maria bell, dating from 1480. The church took on its present appearance during renovations in 1789. Its early mention, its presumed original construction, the dated bell and its post-renovation appearance belong to different periods of its history.
The Svratka Town Museum focuses on the interwar period, post-war trade, regional history and local crafts. If you’re interested in the town’s history, you’ll find several subjects in one place, from the region’s development to local crafts.
Art in two galleries
The Miloš Novotný Gallery has more than 90 paintings on permanent display. These include oil paintings and watercolours featuring motifs from the Žďárské vrchy, as well as expressive and abstract works. The range, from landscapes to more expressive and abstract pieces, offers a variety of artistic perspectives. Access arrangements may vary.
The Vysočina Painters’ Gallery opened in 2006. It presents works by artists with regional ties, alongside sculptures and natural growth forms. Together with the Miloš Novotný Gallery, it forms an art destination that encompasses both regional connections and a variety of artistic styles.
River landscape and nature
PĹ™ĂrodnĂ zahrada Svratka is a park on the left bank of the Svratka River. Its features include wetlands and wooden walkways. Around the river, reintroduced native trees and plants provide a habitat, particularly for birds and amphibians. When planning your visit, you can choose between the park, with its walkways and wetlands, and the habitats in the surrounding river landscape.
Swimming, golf and cross-country skiing
The swimming pool in Svratka has an artificial basin measuring 50 × 12.5 metres. It is a public swimming area with free entry. If you’re planning a swim, check its seasonal opening dates before travelling; seasonal access may change.
The Svratka Golf Course has a nine-hole course, a driving range, and practice areas for putting and chipping. It is one of the oldest golf courses in the Czech Republic. As facilities may change, check their current availability before visiting.
Cross-country skiing is another option: the cross-country ski trails in Svratka are regularly groomed with snowmobiles and piste groomers, for both classic and skating styles. Grooming depends on snow conditions. If you’re planning your trip around this activity, factor snow conditions into your plans.
