Ubušínek: Farmstead Architecture and Excursion Routes
Accommodation in Ubušínek
When planning a trip to Ubušínek, you can consider architectural heritage, landscape and excursions as different focal points. The village lies in a gently south-sloping valley in the catchment area of the small Hrabovec stream. The Ubušínek Village Heritage Zone includes seven protected buildings; a hike just over 15 kilometres long also starts here.
Architectural styles and heritage protection
The farmsteads display a range of architectural features. Kryštofovo stavení has an enclosed courtyard and a first upper storey built at a lower height. At Strakova chalupa, the defining features of its architectural character are the enclosed upland-style farmstead and its renovation in the second half of the 18th century. Comparing them draws attention both to the layout of a farmstead and to the construction of its storeys and its building history.
Gregorova usedlost is an enclosed four-sided farmstead, built mainly using timber-frame construction. The complex includes a detached barn, wooden sheds, stables and a sheepfold. At Juříkův statek, it is worth looking at the main building on the right: it is plastered and built using timber-frame construction, stands on a stone plinth and has a gable roof. Ornamental paintings have been preserved on the gable. The farmsteads can thus be compared in terms of different features: enclosed courtyards, the arrangement of outbuildings, wall construction and roof shape.
If you are particularly interested in architecture, specific features can help you distinguish the farmsteads by their individual design rather than just by name. At Kryštofovo stavení, the combination of courtyard and lower upper storey stands out; at Gregorova usedlost, the four-sided farmstead and its outbuildings are the main features. Strakova chalupa adds the upland style and the 18th-century renovation to the comparison. At the main building on the right at Juříkův statek, timber-frame construction, plaster, a stone plinth and a painted gable come together.
Planning hikes and cycling trips
The hike “Z Ubušínku za výhledy a dobrodružstvím” (“From Ubušínek in search of views and adventure”) starts in Ubušínek and is just over 15 kilometres long. The distance gives you a specific planning benchmark if you intend to make hiking a set part of your trip.
The “Velký okruh Zubří zemí” (“Great Circuit of the Land of Zubří”) cycling loop follows cycle route 104 to Ubušín and then takes a turn-off to Ubušínek. Check the route conditions locally before riding this route. The “Cyklovýlet svrateckou hornatinou do CHKO Žďárské vrchy” (“Cycling trip through the Svratka Highlands to the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area”) goes from Ubušínek along an unmarked field track to a green-marked hiking trail. Current navigation tools may be needed for unmarked sections. The two route descriptions therefore differ: the cycling loop specifies the cycle route and turn-off, while the other trip also describes the change from a field track to a marked hiking trail.
Valley and viewpoint
Near Ubušínek, a viewpoint lies above Veselí near Dalečín on Na Jedli hill, at an elevation of 727 metres. From there, the view extends over the Svratka Valley and the highest peaks of the Žďárské vrchy. This is a different landscape setting from Ubušínek itself: the village lies in a gently south-sloping valley in the Hrabovec catchment area. If you plan your trip around landscape themes, you can consider the valley and the elevated viewpoint as two different points of orientation.
