Accommodation in Vícenice U Náměště Nad Oslavou
Vícenice u Náměště nad Oslavou brings together several historical points of interest: the Church of St. Mark stands in the medieval town center, the Sedlec Garrison Museum explores, among other things, Náměšť Airfield, and the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes has a more recent restoration history. This perspective is complemented by the connection to the Náměšťsko-Studenecká pond landscape. For planning your trip, it is helpful to distinguish between local history, military aviation history and landscape; a visit to the museum also requires prior arrangement.
The Church of St. Mark and local history
The Church of St. Mark was mentioned as a parish church in 1376; the village was also first mentioned that year. Its location is recorded as an archaeological area in the medieval town center. The archaeological area spans the period from the Middle Ages to modern times. Two time scales are therefore relevant to the local history: the shared year in which the church and village were first mentioned, and the longer time frame assigned to the church site.
Sedlec Garrison Museum: airfield, squadron and aircraft
The Sedlec Garrison Museum in Vícenice has three main exhibitions. The permanent exhibition covers Náměšť nad Oslavou Airfield; the “311” exhibition is dedicated to the RAF bomber squadron; and the General Emil Boček Salon focuses on a pilot from the 310th Fighter Squadron. The three subjects thus differ in their focus: an airfield, a bomber squadron and a pilot’s career. The museum also has an outdoor area with historic jet aircraft and helicopters associated with the history of the air base. The exhibition subjects and the historic aircraft therefore offer different ways to explore the past.
Visits are possible only by prior arrangement and subject to the military unit’s availability. Possible visit formats include organized tours, open days or school history visits. Check current visiting arrangements before your trip; the composition of the exhibitions may also change.
Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes
The restored masonry chapel Panny Marie Lourdské—the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes—is on the eastern edge of Vícenice. It was renovated in 2016–2017 and consecrated on April 23, 2017. The new chapel was built at a crossroads near a pond; its new location is about 117 meters southwest of the original site. The renovation period and consecration date describe the building’s more recent history, while the crossroads and relocation give a more precise sense of its location.
Pond landscape on the northwestern edge
The cadastral area of Vícenice borders the significant natural landscape of the Náměšťsko-Studenecká pond system to the northwest. This describes the boundary of the cadastral area, while the church and chapel are situated at specific locations in the village. Different spatial scales therefore complement one another: the medieval town center, the eastern edge of the village and the northwestern boundary of the cadastral area. If you are looking at Vícenice from a historical and landscape perspective, this distinction helps keep the topics separate.
